lights for my new shop

I've read most the wars on T5HO and T8's, used T12's in three my shops so no deal with them. I have a new red iron shop 40x 80x 12, 3:12 roof pitch, has 4 " insulation side walls and 6" in roof with standard white backing. to get a good start for now was going to put two lights per bay (8 total) and add lights as needed. went to buy T5HO at HD and they had one in stock so started checking a little more and Found these at Home Depot online.

12 of these sound pretty sweet but no reviews that I see and everybody has different ideas on the other lights. Thanks for your thoughts.

I'd be on board with you, except for one thing.
The most important thing about this fixture is the lamp, and they tell you very little about it.
Envirolite doesn't make lamps, so they buy this from someone. Seeing as how there is a lot of manufacturers of LED tubes, ranging from complete junk to really good ones, for $1000, I would want to know which tubes I'm getting. They offer a 5 year warranty, which, if a lamp fails, Envirolite will blame on the lamp manufacturer. You would have to deal with them (whoever it is).
If the lamp is made by Philips, Sylvania, TCP, Samsung or GE, I'm in. If not...walk away.
OR....get the bare fixture and install your lamp brand of choice.

Additionally, get information on how the sockets in this are wired. Some LED tubes have lamps that power up at one end. Some are powered from both ends. Which is this? You will want to know this when you need to put in a new lamp.

Finally, is there a chance that someone other than you will try to put a regular fluorescent tube in this fixture? This will not go well....

Don't use fixtures that don't have quality lamps & bulbs, stick with GE, sylvania, Phillips, etc. Standard is junk.

I used 6 lamp f54t5ho lamps in my garage, it's only 30x30 and I have 8 of them plus 2 rows of f32t8 4 lamp linear fixtures across the back of my shop on the underside of the mezzanine.

T8 vs t5, everything has its place.

I personally have installed more light fixtures of many types then 99% of members on here. The biggest job I have done was a 500k Sq ft warehouse, 400w HPS to a t8 highbay (6 lamp) 35ft mounting height. I've also done a 50k sqft chiller warehouse which used various types of LED fixtures, 42ft mounting and it was -20 deg C. These were retrofit jobs, I've done hundreds of retail spaces and have gotten to experience the change in modern lighting.

Hi,

I am doing a 40' x 60' shop (2,400 square feet) and was informed that 100 lumens per square foot was a good lighting number to shoot for......

I have 8 6 tube High-Bay T5-HO fixtures to install and they are rated at 30,000 lumens each gross.....giving me 240,000 lumens which I feel is the starting point and adding lights as I get the shop up and running....

You have 3,200 square feet with 96,000 lumens, which doesn't seem like enough...

LED's are neat but you need a lot more fixtures for the same light output....

I am not a lighting expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn once.........
