I installed a couple of these strip lights under my last truck as puddle lights; to make sure they stayed in place I ran a very small bead of clear silicone down each side of the strip.

It worked out well, I never had an issue with them coming off.

I imagine that this would work for your application just as well..

An update...the strips from eBay may be bright enough...but I'm not sure how well the sticky back is going to work. The backing paper is already coming off. If these don't work, i'll try the ones from Amazon.

I think JD's setup is the way to go but I'd like to know how the LED strips are mounted on the ramps. The only way I can think of to mount the strips would be inside an LED aluminum housing like these onto the ramps:

Anyone else use something like this?

Could you by chance post a pick with the lights off? I would like to see where you actually have the lights mounted on the lift.

Also how do you cut the LEDs one for each side or is it one continuous light.

Really want to do this mod!!!

Thanks a lot.

i haven't been able to work on this lately...but hope to get back to it soon.

Somewhere I got (and still have a couple short pieces) white plastic "L" moldings. They were 8' long, flexible and inexpensive. My thinking was to double face tape them to the insides of the runways, the apply the LEDs on top.

The problem I ran into was how to get the wiring to the LEDs. My plan was to run the wiring inside the tubing that contains the air line and hydraulic line...but once inside the runway I couldn't figure how to nicely get the wiring to the opposite sides of the runway. Perhaps a coiled cord to one of the cross pieces that hold the runways?

I do have an update. The LEDS purchased from the eBay will work. I plan to use some plastic strips for sheetrock placed along the inside edges of the runways. They're "L" shaped.

My problem right now is where to mount the power supply/transformer and get the power wires run so that it's neat and clean...

What does LED lighting cost to replace these lights they burns lot of electricity. Put out a lot of light but love electricity.

I put my LED strips in the truck today. They work pretty well. I should have a lift by fall to try them on also.

I just bought this lift and installed it today so I'm ready to start tinkering with the LED lights. Before I bought the lift, my first idea I had for placing the lights was on the vertical edge of the ramp but the jack tray will more than likely smash the strips. Even if I use an aluminum LED housing, I still think the tray will break the lights. I'll probably place the LED housing on the horizontal lip of the ramps and hope I can keep them clean.

Here are the housings I'm considering.

An update..albiet a minor one.

I've been busy with work and other things, so this took a back seat. My lighting friend is stopping by tonight with the transformers so we'll get a handle on where to mount those.

As many know, I'm using the LED stripes I got on eBay. I've also found that McMaster-Carr sells PVC 90 degree "L" channel in widths down to .5". We also plan to hook up power from both ends of the LED strips to ensure the brightness remians constant for the entire lengh of the the strip.

My biggest hurdle is getting power to the "insides" of the runways when the LEDS will be. I was considering mounting the transformers on the column...then running the 12v feed through the tubing to the runway. That gets it into the runway...but now how do I get it to LED strips? I'd rather not drill holes.

I was looking at mine and am still at a lose as to where you are gonna mount the LED strips. I am afraid the sliding metal tray will take them out when its moved. How is yours gonna be mounted?

Thanks

Udnudn....I plan to use some plastic "L" channel so that the lights are just below the surface of each runway. My lift has the sliding BendPak jack trays that ride in a trough on both sides...beneath where the LED channels will be.

You ever finish the project or anyone else?
