I have been using my garage with unfinished interior for a few years and had installed several porcelain pull chain lights with outlets in the ceiling. I used round plastic boxes as I was planning on sheetrock in the future. I hung some fluorescents with pull chains and plugged them in the ceiling fixtures. I just finished insulating the ceiling and walls and am having a contractor install a metal ceiling. Wondering if it makes sense to cut the metal for the installed fixtures or is there an easier option (different style box)? Thought maybe there was something different used with metal. I would like to re-use my fluorescents. I realize most will recommend hard wiring fluorescents but I like the setup I have. I guess all I really need are outlets on the ceiling.

I don't have a metal ceiling, but I am thinking about it. I would probably go exposed conduit and boxes - easy to do after the ceiling is up and relatively easy to reconfigure.

I just put six florescent lights mounted to the metal ceiling in my new shop. I mounted utility boxes on the trusses and had the installers cut them in and they also ran the wire for me. Weird a plug In the lights so I could feed two off one box easily. My ceiling is white and those lights make it very bright throughout.
