My lathe has a carriage-mounted light that doesn't fit my space, so I took it off.

I measured the wire that goes to it, and it's apparently 24VAC. I would like to mount a fixed LED light strip under the shelf above the lathe to provide extra light and fill in my shadow, but I think it would be extra cool if it automatically came on with the lathe, like the carriage-mounted light originally did. What kind of under-cabinet lights would run on 24 volts AC?

Just google... but first you have to figure out what type of socket base your bulbs are... best if you can converted to the E26/E27 120V that you have plenty more choices...

for example these GU5.3 base , GU10 , MR16 etc...

Convert it to DC with a simple rectifier, then you can buy a DC-DC converter board for a couple bucks that will reduce the voltage down to 12VDC...then you can use any strip light or anything else 12v LED. A lot of LED stuff runs from 9-30v, you might only need to rectify the voltage. Sometimes they even work fine with AC, try searching for 24vac led driver.

I was thinking this kinda the same I was reading all the responses and I'll add you can get 24vdc led strips off Amazon that you can cut to length.

Buy this, it is a relay box that can input almost any signal including 24VAC to trigger a standard plug. Connect the 24VAC from your socket to it and any lamp to the box.
