I have a Backyard Buddy that I would like to put some lights under. Has anyone else mounted lights of some sort to their lift? Is everyone else using hand held drop lights under the lift?

Thanks in advance!

Interesting idea! I don't' have a 4 post, I have a MaxJax and a Atlas mid-rise but even I would like to have more light and not have to place it and have cord to deal with.

One though might be some of these small battery powered LED under counter lights I've seen at HD/Lowes maybe a few of those attached to the lift in key places might do the trick????

I'm not good about charging batteries, so battery powered stuff isn't a great idea for me. I was thinking something mounted to the lift with a recoiling cord.

I've been considering putting a couple covered flourescents on the wall next to the hoist.
I think that would work pretty well to at least get some ambient light under the vehicle.
Some sort of task light will still be required for detail jobs - seeing up around the transmission, starter, etc.

I have a 4foot flourescent tube light with hooks on both ends - it's great to hang under the car - it lights up the entire area of the underbody without being totally in your way.

Your going to want to have a good cover over the bulb on a fluorescent to make sure it doesn't get hit from a dropped part or wrench under there. Just a consideration.

for flourescent check out the vaportight type fixtures, they have a sealed high impact polycarbonate housing

I put some T5 tubes on the wall at waist height. Doesn't help so much with under the car when raised, but not bad for seeing under the hood. And yes, without covers, they are magnets for tools and hips.

I thought about lights on the walls, but my lift is in my middle bay.

I guess I need to post some pics of my shop.

Search for a "loading dock light". I plan on equipping my future lift with one. It's on a retractable arm, which can be placed under the car without having to hang it on anything. They are typically swung out in to empty trailers at loading docks when loading/unloading them. Very bright.

Check out liftlyte at metrolifts.com They have what you need. If you are "cheap" like me, buy two strips from COSTCO and do it yourself.

Our new hunter alignment lift at school has two rows of LEDs mounted to the inner rails on the lift. I don't think it helps that much, but it's better than nothing, and you won't burn yourself on them. Of course all of our droplights have CFL's in em now.

This pic looks like it shows fluorescents, but our new rack has LEDs

hey guys, saw this thought I would chime in on a few things we have done at work, while not for under a lift, was a source of light that was not going to burn us. anyway warning this option is NOT CHEAP. but worked well for us.

we used a Wet Location T8 Fluorescent Fixture ( will supply a link of similar units, lots of styles available and price ranges )
and then used a set ( 2 ) of flat mounting magnets with male studs, one on each end of the fixture, with a cord wired to just a standard cord end. some units we double corded with male on one end and a female on the other end, so we could daisy chain lights. cords on the units were between 15-30 feet of SOOW cord.

you could tweak the units yourself for your needs, when needed just stick the unit to the hoist or vehicle where needed, when not in use, stick it to the outside of a post so its close but out of the way.

Hope this make sense to you guys.

Our fixtures we used were around 200 bucks a pop, but the company had lots of money to throw at them. watch for sales you can often find the units for 75 ish anyway links to the items to help give you a visual. these are just random links I found on the web, lots of choices out there.
