Hi,

I was looking through the Snap-on online store, and came across this: "Bit, PHILLIPS°, Limited Clearance, #2" (SDM222CZ) [1]. Does anyone know what "limited clearance" means in this context? The picture does not help since it is the same for all Phillips bits. I've sent an e-mail to Snap-on, but they did not get back to me until now.

Thanks,
Akos

Looks to me like it is very short compared to most of those types of bits. So you don't need a lot of clearance room for it to fit. I have a few of various makes and they are only about 1/2 inch long total. Makes it nice if you need to get into a very tight spot to loosen or tighten a screw.

Akos,

I have no clue about that Snap-on limited clearance #2 Phillips bit. However, Snap-on sells stubby bits that are 17mm in height here: Snap-on stubby bits.

You can ready about my comparision of the post purchases of the Anex (Japanese) and Snap-on stubby screwdriver bits here (posts# 9 and 10): GJ threads.

Limited clearance bit are useful for small screws in recessed holes where the bit is bigger than the hole. You use these if you cant use one with an extended shaft.
