Have you bought any of these "Limited Edition" tools?

I know Klein has had some Limited stuff going way back as I remember a chrome Y2K linesman but some of this stuff has gotten out of control recently.

I impulse buy **** and got a "USA" edition Wera screwdriver bottle opener combo mainly because I wanted the bottle opener. USA edition Wera makes no sense as its a German company but they got me. Now I have a bottle opener in the kitchen drawer and an orphaned screwdriver in my extras stash.

I also recently bought some Klein stuff at Lowes for basically no reason because it caught my eye. It has sat in my garage unopened for a couple months but is now destined as a birthday present for my girlfriend's niece who is in votech high school. She is graduating next year and trying to become an electrician.

Do you honestly think any of this stuff has any value? I see people attempting to sell some of the Klein stuff I've seen on eBay for a couple hundred dollars.

Not really a thing for me, but different strokes. I did pick up a used 90th anniversary Powermatic bandsaw. I don't think that the special black paint would add a penny to the value, but the saw does have some functional extras that would add value.

I have a few snap on anniversary stuff I bought cheap. Some hard handle screwdrivers that are 70th anniversary ones with a little plaque on the handle also a punch or chisel roll that says 25th anniversary on. Have a few spanners that say some sort of anniversary too but cant remember what, might be 70th and 100th.
For value I guess the right person will pay more for special or limited edition stuff but with the quantities they make for most of this stuff now I doubt its actually really worth it paying significantly more than the standard tool unless you really like it. I also wouldn't bank on it being some collectable investment either but who knows these days people drop tens of thousands on ugly NFT pictures.

I bought two Limiged Edition Knipex tools. Found them last year and they were at a reduced price, cheaper than the same one in red. I found it funny to have between the red tools :D I wanted the twingrip this year, ordered it, but the company messed up the shipping so after about 2 weeks of waiting (5 day delivery) I requested a refund. (Do I really need them? Nope... but I like them) I don't want to pay higher price than the regular tool.

I am not really a collector of special edition tools.

The one I do like, is the gold glitter Snap-on anniversary pocket screwdrivers. It is the gold glitter part… not the anniversary part, that is appealing to me.

Have a couple but I use them. Almost bought the American flag Klein linemans pliers & flush cutters. But the flush cutters didn't cut wire ties flush. So the $13 pass on the sale for the flush cutters lost them the sale for the $30 linesmans pliers.

They are awards for honest work. I do not find anything hilarious about them.

I find tokens and trinkets ridiculous. Real tools or cash are appropriate rewards for good work.
Will Harbor Freight give these away for "honest work", obviously not.

FB near me has plenty of like new Dale Earnhardt tool boxes at 30-40% list price. Tools/boxes aren't an investment.
I've seen this on craigslist as well. Years ago I snagged a dale jr box combo from a reasonable guy, $300 bucks. he told me he saved it out of a dumpster from a house he was doing the tile work on that had a bunch of other contractors doing a gut job after the homeowner died and the son sold it to a flipper. little worse for wear after going into the dumpster but glad to have it. I should've offered less!

I won't buy limited edition tools, not for a premium price anyway. And certainly not gold plated ratchets or wrenches. I don't actually don't understand the appeal of gold plated stuff.

I mean yeah, back in the 80s or so gold plated was popular. These days they just look cheesy to me. The HF gold plated ratchets are funny to me. At least they call them Special Edition & not Limited Edition cause they have never been "limited", they've been readily available ever since they came out.

I would not pay extra for a limited edition anything, new or old. Although I did consider snap on pearl hard handle screwdriver set.

Usually the stuff that ends up being valuable is the regular stuff that no one makes anymore and every one got rid of long ago. Look at OG monopoly and square body trucks. Was as common as anything and now worth as much as gold.

I have a bunch of old MAC 24k gold stuff.. takes up an entire drawer in the toolbox that I'll never ever use...

Cool limited set of Vessel screwdrivers, recently which is a Cornwell exclusive. https://webcat.cornwelltools.com/VES4308EVAMU-Iridescent-Purple-Tang-Thru-Screwdriver-Set-p716034101
Dear evil @dudley123 you are testing me almost to my limits.... Every time I see those I think I want those. I must have those..... But I already own essentially that set without the purple.

I really want them though I really like them... I was going to post exactly that said and you surely beat me to it...

My only concern, ignoring the fact that I already own the set, how are those handles in your hand? I'm really curious if anyone has a set. I think someone here posted them before. Just don't remember if they actually owned them.

I caved when the cornwell guy called me and said "They're here".. As you mentioned they're identical to the other Megadora's we all seem to love but dang if that purple isn't cool!

How are the handles?
Handles are great, comfortable and still have the through-tang on the end. Kind of in between their power-grip and traditional megadora. NOT soft-grip.. Andy, I know I'm no help but you should grab a set while you can. LOL

In the tool world, "limited edition" essentially means as many of them as they can sell before buyers get bored of them...

Though it boggles my mind how many professional mechanics will pay huge premiums so they can have tools in their favorite color.

I picked Red as my colour back in the days when everything Snap-On or MAC sold came with either Red or Black handles, finally it's paying off for me as guys sell off the standard stuff on eBay to get the fancy green/yellow/blue/purple stuff from the dealers.

I have started to make my own or repurpose other tool handles just to keep everything Red (partly for identification/partly for comfort/partly due to OCD) 😂

I am not like that with my tools, but I like to have the same handle for the "series" so to say as much as possible. I however want my shirts almost always to be navy blue :))
