I am looking at precision tig 275 that is in my neighbors shop. The welder is owned by a young kid who bought it from the local Lincohn dealer. The welder was used for a tv bike build. The kid paid $2600 for it after the build. Its comes complete on wheels, tig rig, tank, flow meter and water cooled. He wants me to make an offer. My question is - how much is this worth and does anyone have experience with this machine.

Thats a very nice welder. Used mostly in production shops (hence the water cooled). offer him $2000 and see if he will take it!

PT 275s are OK, they're about in the same class as a Miller Syncrowave 250. With all the extras, $1700 would be a good starting place. Be aware they're transformer machines and consequently current hogs, though. It will make your meter dizzy.

Water cooled torches have nothing to do with production, it's a necessity for high amperage applications. Manual TIG machines are seldom used for production.

High amperage and extended periods of use would be production. I run high amperage for short periods on mine, no need for the water cooled torch since I have ample time to cool in between. I have been in countless shops that use TIGs for production (not high quantity stuff, but high quality low production) such as my own shop!

I hate to disagree, but I am by no means a production shop and I just went to a water cooled torch. You have no idea how annoying it is to have to stop in the middle of a bead welding a roll cage in above your head because it needs to cool down.

That is a very good machine. 1700.00 would not be a bad price at all. I would pay that for it. Watercooled torches are nice. Nothing like having to stop when your in the middle of something to let it cool.

Is there any open slots in the control panel or are they all filled? If there are open slots and its an older model you mite not be able to upgrade the control panel do to being discontinued (I'm not shire if the current micro start 2 panel will fit).

They are very nice welders for the right price ****** it up. You wont ever knead another welder.

air cooled torch is the same as water cooled, till you run into some really tight spots. air cooled torch is twice the size of water cooled.
