Think I have narrowed it down to this welder for handyman welder, Flux core and mig. Home Depot has it for $499. Anyone care to give me some insight to this unit? Appreciate any input.

i had the earlier version, promig140.

1st time out of the box, and the selector switch broke. took it back, they handed me another one over the counter, i was back welding 20 minutes later.

ive had zero problems with mine over the last 7 or 8 years....

I'm not familiar with that one. But I've had a Lincoln SP135+ for over 10 years and it's been great for my needs. Does that one have variable voltage or pre-set voltage settings? Variable voltage is preferable.

The voltage is tapped. I actually like it better on small machines. On the Lincolns it's spot on.

seems like the "suggested" taps and wire speed is pretty damn close to being spot on. especially the with flux core i run 99% of the time...

the biggest thing ive noticed with my 140, is if i try to use "cheap" wire, nothing seems to be right with the settings, i spend more time trying to "dial it in" than i do welding. i went back to lincoln wire..

I must tell you, for the price point, hobart handler 140 is golden. I've used Lincoln, Miller and Hobart and like my Hobart the best (yes I know Miller makes Hobart).

I recommend looking on ebay. You can get factory refurbished Lincoln 140s with a cart, regulator, etc... For $500. They still come with the Lincoln 3 year warranty too
