Looking to purchase a AC Tig welder I see Lincoln has a $600 rebate on the Square Wave. Its priced at $2400 also comes with a hood or you can take a 7% discount and not take the hood which is what I would do so $2,209 plus tax. I know the Prime weld welder has lots of good reviews. Anything else to look at it? So $2,394 all in with the $600 gift card for cylinder and Argon and anything else I need.

That price seems way to high. I bought my SW200 brand new for $1700 from the local welding store 4 years ago.
Lincoln as well as Miller have MAP pricing so all the online guys are selling at that price. So at $2,300 Sales price and $600 visa card puts me at $1,700.00 I realize its still $2,300 out of pocket.

Don't get me wrong, I love my SW200. My friends and I have done a ton of welding with it (it's sort of turned into our "community TIG") and it's done everything we've asked of. At its original price of $1700, the SW200 offered tremendous performance/value per dollar, especially being a "red" machine backed by Lincoln support, service and reliability. It was a no-brainer to purchase it.

However, I can't deny that it's a fairly basic machine. At the $2400 price point, you're really getting into the territory of some more interesting and more exotic machines that I think are worth looking into.

At $2400, you can get an:
- HTP Invertig 221 that offers way more settings/customization, more amps, and more duty cycle. It's not like HTP is some no-name Chinese-built machine either. They're built by a reputable Italian company.
- ESAB ET 186i AC/DC. Similar currents/duty cycle to the SW200, but like the HTP has way more configurability and options.

I think you may have got me with the HTP Invertig 221. I am just a newb at Tig but as a home gamer I don't think I would outgrow this machine. Looks like a whole lot more features for a few bucks extra. I try to buy the best I can afford the first time instead of stepping up as I go. Thanks for the lead on this.

I’ve had zero issues with the PrimeWeld, great machine for the money.

Your LWS may not be the best place to buy, finding the best with your welder choice may prove troublesome though. LWS wants $800+ for the foot pedal to make my Lincoln 210MP TIG capable Canadian Tire wants $279.** torch is also cheaper (not as extreme a savings). They don't sell the plug that is needed though so $80+ from the regular players. I'm not sure I'll pursue this as I have my SW175 still. The 210 would allow some portability, (~40# vs. 200+# and then the cart) decisions(?). Red or Blue are both pretty safe bets, but with a price. The others have come a long way it seems. You pays your money and take your chances [both ways, possibly overpay or with the lesser known brand gamble]. Harry

I have the primeweld225. It’s badass and reliable. Way cheaper, don’t buy red or blue.

I bought the sw200 when it came out at the introductory price of 1500. I've been happy with it. I'm told it doesn't have a high enough ocv for 60xx but I've run 70xx with no problems. I tig with it and haven't had any trouble except that at the lowest amps, it has too hot of a start for super thin al.
