Should the cooling fan start immediately when the power is switched on? It seems to take a few minutes before I can hear it running. The welder works fine, except for the 90 amp setting, which is dead. Thanks.
The fan needs to run full time to achieve the rated duty cycle of the welder. Of course, they could have used a thermostat but it would have been unneeded expensive and complexity.
If you have been using it hard, don't kill the breaker to it right away. Let the fan run and cool it a while.
Had one for years, bought new, fan turns on when switch is on. Bought a used AC-DC, fan made noise, went into it from the back and oiled the bearings, runs quiet now. Yours may need cleaning and oiling.
