Just picked up an 80's vintage lincoln tombstone ac/dc 225 welder. I need to work on the switches but can't see how to access them. The front cover appears to be spot welded on and removing the back plate doesn't help. Has anyone had experience accessing the selector switches on one of these?

To get the switch assembly out you have to disassemble quite a bit. It comes apart from the back forward. You take off the back lower panel, then the upper 90° piece that holds the fan and covers the back of the switch. Then, finally you can remove the switch assembly.

Thanks for the response zkling. After I posted i went back out and tore into the back for a while. There's a lot of homeless spiders after that exercise! I stopped at the point where the upper back sheetmetal was ready to come out, but ran out of time.

Not sure yet if I need to disconnect any electrical connections to remove the upper back piece enough to get at the switches. I was thrilled to finally find a dc unit at a good price. Am looking to freshen up the paint - that deep red sure looks a lot like the color they used to put on the old Indian motorcycles!
