After telling my neighbor about these welder deals, he decided it was time to purchase a welder, so we took a ride to our local Lowes. Lincoln 180 was shelf priced at $669, however, I brought a printout of the $460.60 price at a store in Pennsylvania. When the cashier rang him up, he asked for a price match to their sister store and showed the printout which resulted in her giving a 110% price match, bringing the price down to $414.54. What happened next was an even bigger surprise. The cashier asked if he was a veteran and upon confirming his military ID, she marked the whole order down another 10% (also had a welding cart which was on clearance from $86.88 to $43.44)! Total cost for the welder and cart, out the door with tax was under $500!

I dunno if you are exaggerating. No offense... maybe if you could show us the receipt that will be more believable than listening to these ppl typing.talk is talk and is cheap. So again show us the receipt in picture.

They only have one left at my local store, and I think it's the demo (the 125). Maybe they would discount it more for being open.

It doesn't look like the 125 will accept blanket gas. How important is this? I'm looking to get my first welder, and the majority of my projects for now will be sheet metal for my old truck project. I might build a few utility items here and there. The frame might need some welding, but I figured I'd be best to hire a mobile welder that knows what they are doing.

Here is mine for $446.76...I misspoke when I said $399 earlier as I thought Discover had double 5% cash back for Lowes, but I only got 5% back, so $424.42 out the door...I can live with that!

I certainly would not offend my neighbor with such a request and I am not really certain why you would feel the need to call me out on a claim of exaggeration, but I'll bite. Here is a photo of my receipt, since I purchased the same welder and cart as my neighbor, with the difference being that I am not military (so I did not get the extra 10% across the board that my neighbor did) and I chose to add on the extended warranty.

Any other questions?

Has anyone bought the display model? How much of a discount did you get and was it the bare unit?

I see that your warranty was for the $500-$999 range, yet you paid under $500. I'm not sure the cost difference, but it looks like you overpaid. :p
That was the immediate down side to the extended warranty, as the system would not allow the cashier to override the warranty price (I guess it is based off the original sales price only). I actually overpaid quite a bit if you think about it, because the cost of the tier of the sale price is $49.97 for a 2 year and $99.97 for 4 years. In the end, I made out ok because the manager on duty issued me a store credit for the difference in price which was $40.

I'm sure you wont be able to think of anything to spend that $40 credit on. I mean, it's incredibly difficult to spend money at Lowes.

Yes, indeed it is difficult;)
Since I only have 30 amp service to my workshop, I need to share the line between the welder and the IR SSL3L compressor I picked up just a week prior. I did not want to rewire, adapt or cut the plug off the welder, so I picked up a few items to keep things neat and to allow me to weld outside my workshop if needed:

I lucked out and found both the NEMA 6-50 plug and receptacle on a clearance rack marked down to $6.50 each, without packaging.

The last item I picked up was a 6' rem of 6 AWG Power Cord for $0.40/linear foot. which was perfect to make a short cord for the compressor to power outlet.

I hope to find time to install everything this weekend.

Yes, a couple please! Why did you get the extended warranty and what does it cover that the Lincoln three year warranty does not?

I finally found one today and had to choose. I didn't know what it would cover so I passed. But I think I could go back. Mine is also a 180.

Thanks,
Shep

I purchased the extended warranty because it not only stacks onto the 3 years, but it encompasses it as well. If I should have an issue during the first 5 years of ownership, I call Lowes, not Lincoln. Lowes sends a person to me, instead of me hauling the machine to a service center. Combine that with the fact that it worked out to $.07/day for the extended warranty and it became a no brainer.

I have used the Lowes extended warranty in the past on a fridge, washer, dryer and oven and have always had great experiences with it. After owning the fridge for 3 years and moving to my current home, it kept losing the same part which was responsible for balancing the cooling between fridge and freezer. After the 3rd replacement in 9 months, the tech determined it was taking on a an outside power surge (a whole house surge protector solved that issue). Had I not had the warranty, not only would I have been out the 3 service calls, but the cost of the part that kept failing at no fault of the manufacturer. In the case of the Lowes warranty, it was covered as a no fault of the owner item.

Lowes offers 30 days for you to add on the extended warranty.

Thanks bored350. I don't usually buy these plans but I will probably pick this one up. I think the welders are already several years old based on a email to Lincoln. So adding a couple years is good insurance. I got a good deal, not quite what you to but close. And still a sealed new box.

I've never welded.
How long do those tips last? They are 50% off at least, and made in USA. Should I stock up?

It sounds like you guys ran into quite a deal with the welders. I'm glad to hear you got real honest to God welders and not one of those flux wire machines, ken.
