Hi all, I've been enjoying this forum for a while. Just wondering if any of you guys that have the Lincoln Handy Mig welder have ever considered converting this unit to run the larger wire spools, rather than the smaller 2 lb spools that the unit is designed for.

Ayuh,..... So long as the 10lb spool will fit inside the case, all ya need is the spindle adapter,....
Which can be made, by cuttin' down a small spool, though the ones ya buy work better than the one I made,...
It got me outa a jamb, after hours,...

The welder won't know the difference,....

I bought a Hobart Treker, 'n unfortunately, the 10lb spools Won't fit inside the case,....

To save ca$h, I buy big spools, 'n respool the wire onto the small spools with alittle creativity, 'n my cordless drill,....
Usin' ole small spools that came with aluminum wire on 'em are best, as they hold more wire,...

The 1" to 2" spindle adapter works fine. The real issue is to provide a method to tension the larger spool so it doesn't unwind itself when you stop feeding wire. The handy mig has a unique tensioner set-up that has to be modified in order to use the larger spools.
