hey fellas, I just acquired a sa200 pipeliner, needs some work, cranks over but doesn't have enough compression or something. anyways, my question is, I took all the leads and remote off as soon as I got it incase some sticky finger people thought about taking them for the copper. I didn't read on the remote switch where it says. do not disconnect remote if switch is on remote. I just took the damn thing off. well now tried to turn the switch off remote to panel and the switch will not flip over. did I mess something up? its like a regular light switch, not a toggle. Should I just not worry about it right now since I have to go through the whole welder/engine anyways? im just worried I might of messed something up

Don't know how many folks here are experts on the SA200, but over on WeldingWeb.com there are lots of folks who know them inside-out. Might want to post your question over there... (apologies to any here who can help him - just not sure of the knowledge base on this subject!)

I think that warning is just not to disconnect the remote while it is under power for it will arc if the engine is running. if the engine is not running when you unplugged it should not hurt anything. The switch may have been broken before you acquired the machine

The SA200 has a cult following on WeldingWeb, those guys will definetly know the answer. That said, I think hippie2cams has the right answer. On that type of welding machine, a fairly significant current flows through the remote, so you don't want to disconnect it while the machine is running.

I suspect the local / remote switch is damaged. It should be a two position toggle switch.

ok thanks for the info, I will have to sign up over there. This project is going to have to wait a bit. I got this baby for 400.00 my father picked It up for me down in Tn. It has a ton of welding leads that I took off too.

Keith,Those guys over at welding web go nuts over the sa200's, a lot of knowledge to be had from there. Also you got a good platform to start with. I've seen those sell in worse shape for more money.
