I have a chance to buy a Lincoln SP – 100 mig welder for $200. Question is, is it worth it?
Works good but needs a new tip. I am going to check it out tomorrow. Im not a welder and this would be just for home/hobby needs. I go to my brothers' brother in law for serious welding needs as he is a master welder.

Does it come with a bottle? Either way it's a great welder especially for $200. I would grab it in a minute. They are well built units way more superior than the similar Lincolns at HD and Lowes. No comparison IMO. They also have an infinite dial for voltage which is great for bodywork.

I have probably run well over 100 spools of wire through my SP100, and only had to put one liner in it. It's almost twenty years old and I will be using it tomorrow at my dad's bodyshop where it gets 99% of its use. Definitely bring your brother's brother in law with you to make sure it only needs a tip.

Here's the '72 Toyota Landcruiser I'm restoring. All the welds were done using the SP100. I also own a Millermatic 130 and an Airco Dip Pak 200 for the thicker stuff.

$200 is a good price. I have one that stays set up flux core....I have a 180 set up gas on 230v, but I can drag the 100 around the property way easier than a gas set up.

Not sure what you mean by "tip", but if it's the shroud and/or the contact tip, then that's no big deal....few bucks each.

I also have an SP-100T (tapped settings). I think they call the one with infinite settings "plus". I love mine, its portable being 120V though its still plenty capable for sheet metal and general repairs. I've done 1/4" with mine from both sides and / or beveling the joint.

Nope. Mine reads just plain old SP-100, but I believe Lincoln added the plus at a later date to indicate the infinite settings option.

I previously owned a Lincoln SP175T and it was tapped. I loved the portability of it, but it just didn't seem to get the job done on the thicker stuff. My Airco Dip Pak 200 can just about spray transfer on high setting, so it is the bees knees for EVERYTHING I will ever need it to do.
