Does anyone know the difference from the lincoln 140 mig vs the century (by lincoln)140 mig? They look very similar with the same options but there is quite a price difference...any ideas why?

The Lincoln 140 I looked at wasn't made in the USA either. It said "Made in Mexico". The Lincoln I looked at was at my LWS and was priced at $645 with some free helmet deal or something like that.

I am pretty sure that Lincoln bought the Century name. That being said I would go with a machine from your LWS, the machines that you buy from HD or Lowe's or any other box type store have a limited number of heat settings. The LWS models have infinite setting for heat. :)

Yep, the models the big box stores even have their own model numbers that you won't find at the welding supplier.

Different model numbers leads to a lot of confusion, thats obvious but, the brand name units found at the box stores work well and truth be known I would rather have taps in most cases. I probably am "qualified" for lack of a better word to tune the machine very accurately with infinite voltage setting but,,,, it don't make any difference and is so much simpler. I run 030 in a SPT Lincoln, a 180 class unit, use 3 settings as its only got a 5 speed, but they are really tuned for this size wire, "B" 2 1/2 for thin, "C" 3.5 for medium and "D" 5.5 wfs for max, on occasion I touch the wire speed for special project but its rare. I might back off the wire speed a pinch for some overhead, etc.
