Lincoln Weld Pak 155 Question

Today as I started to weld some .120 wall tubing everything started out ok, nice "bacon frying" welds. When I paused to position my next piece and began to weld again instead of the buzz of a good arc all I got was the wire instantly turning red and just melting onto my project. No stutter, spatter or kick back just **** and melted wire. I tried different settings, adjusted the wire speed, made sure I had a good ground etc. all to no avail. Next I unplugged the welder and cleaned the tip and made sure it was tight then I opened up the side panel and loosened/ re-tightened the cables, checked wire tension etc, all appeared to be fine. I plugged it back in and tried again. This time it worked perfectly. Any ideas what might be going on, what I should look for?

Its your duty Cycle . It was probably too hot.
Did you buy it at a Home Depot? The welders made for them are not the same quality as if you bought .from a welding supply.
My spool tightens up ,when I use the two lb,spools

I was thinking bad ground, but you may be right about the duty cycle, I hadn't thought of that.

Sorry to go off topic, but I've heard of the spool tightening issue over on Welding Web, but never had an issue with my SP 135+. There are a couple fixes for it as I recall. You might check over there in the Lincoln sub-forum.

If it is the same model number, it is exactly the same model. That is bs that is spewed far too much on sites like this.

I had an issue like that on my PowerMIG 255 and it turned out the nozzle was burned too far back. New nozzle and adjusting my setting closer to what the door said and everything was great after that.

Might not hurt to clean up your metal a little as well. MIG isn't like burning 6010/11 where as long as you get the arc started it burns.

If duty cycle was the case you would get no wire feed, weld voltage or gas only the fan would run.

Could your shield gas line have been pinched?
