Guy wants to trade me this welder for an older lawn tractor. Cant find much about it. What can you tell me about it? How it works? can i do thick metal? What would something like this be valued at? Thanks
Also what are the two wires sticking out the left side?

p.s. the good news is that those things are about as simple as it gets; no printed circuit boards or transistors - it's a 3 ph electric motor driving a DC generator, so any phase converter that will start and run a 3ph motor that size will operate the welder.

There's the problem. A VFD or phase converter large enough would likely cost way more than the welder is worth.
