Lincoln weldpak 3200

Have a friend that got a new welder for Christmas and will give up his 3200 with a large tank for $150 should I jump on it to just use around the house? I'm a total novice so this would be for learning and light maintenance and machine repairs

If the tank is owned with paperwork hell yeah!! Being a novice this will be the best $150 you could spent to learn how to weld.

Just curious what are the papers I would need to have? Are they for some sort of tank certification?

Not really. They just prove that the person you got it from is the owner of the bottle which allows you to go to the local welding supply place and exchange your bottle for another one when it's empty. Sometimes these bottles are rented which can cause a problem if you buy it and go have it filled.

Basically, it proves that it's not a rented bottle.

Worth the risk. With a big bottle its a good bet.

the 3200 alone is worth $150 if its in good working order. Comparable to other Lincoln 135 units (weld-pak, pro-mig, etc)

Welding supply places know who's bottle it is by the stamp. Rentals are usually stamped as such, but it is often times coded. Here is what you need to know.

They are essentially the same machine with a jacket for that market. They have a great arc.

Yes as long as it is not beat up, they are handy little machines, your basic 90A@20%. I would question though as to why he would be getting rid of the tank if he got another welder to replace this one.
