Needed a welder last fall for a project. Ran into this old lincweld 180 with 50'+ leads for a steal. Since im now done with it decided to "restore" it. Any ideas where I could get the knob on front? Stupid question maybe but is there a issue with welding one of the legs back on using the welder im welding on? Itappears this isn't exactly a rare or valuable model. I believe it could end up a very unique color.

Well not that anyone seems interested but here it is.
Sand blasted
Bigger dents hammered out and bondoed left the small dings and gouges for character.
Painted.
Clear coated.
Cleaned up the face plates best I could but didn't want to refinish.
I'm happy with the outcome.

Does it work? Maybe it's just me but I would be very apprehensive when plugging it in for the first time. I'm sure they built it well back then but would be worried about rodent damage or corrosion.

Really nice resto. Very satisfying to look at. If you are just missing the bakelite knob, and Lincoln cannot provide the part, try just a generic knob in the right size from the internet.

Or just get some weird plastic statue, drill a hole and epoxy it on. Skull or chicken head is what I would use, but hopefully you have better taste than me.

Stumpf's welding might have the knob. They seem to specialize in obselete Lincoln stuff.
I'm not sure what a selenium rectifer is illmhave to Google it. But I cleaned up everything I could.
I was probably pretty stupid and used the welder multiple times for a sbc jeep yj swap right after buying before even opening the case. Itp was a bit nrvous the first time i turmed it on... Flipped the switch with a broomstick lol. Worked great. I haven't used it since restore but hopefully it still works lol.

I've got the exact same machine. It was my 1st welder. They are really good machines for light duty usage. With no cooling fan they will over heat when running them at the top of the range for extended times.
Yours looks a bit better than mine. I'd keep it around, if you dont burn a lot of rods it will run forever.
