Hey fellas, I just have a few questions for ya! I am in the process of trading an old southbend lathe 9c 1947 I believe, no change gears going in the trade btw, I have 250.00 in the lathe.

im trading for a linde 200HDA power supply, comes with a tig torch, foot pedal, and delivered to my doorstep. He didn't take the lathe today, hes letting me try it out tonight to make sure I like it...

good deal or not?

Depends on a few things IMHO..

1st and most important what is the condition of the lathe? Tooling included?

Do you NEED a tig welder right now? That is a very solid machine, but a dinosaur in the tig welder world. Make sure you get the foot pedal and it all works properly. IIRC linde foot pedals are difficult to find and $$$ when you do. My 2¢. I would estimate the value of that welder to be ~$500, maybe $600 if it came with EVERYTHING one would want to tig weld with. No more.

yes it came with foot pedal and air cooled torch... foot pedal works. I don't have a tank yet so I cant actually try it out on tig yet. but it works on arc for sure. yes I do need a tig machine. I also have a Lincoln HI FREQ unit that is rated 500 amps with coolant and gas valves incase the solenide doesn't work or something.

the lathe is pretty rusty...... I will upload pics asap... im just going to give him a few basic things, some toolbits and what not. nothing special.

Looks like you have a few SB's. As long as you are happy with it, I guess it is a fair deal. Just make sure you get to test it out with foot pedal on AC w/ HF on continuous, make sure it is responsive to pedal inputs. They are a very basic machine, so not much can go wrong with them. Worst comes to worst, they weight a ton so their scrap value is pretty good. Years ago I looked at purchasing a Linde UCC305 for ~$100, but it was just the base machine without foot pedal or torch. I decided it wasn't worth the total investment.

If you plan on doing a bunch of aluminum, especially thin aluminum I would look for a different machine. IMHO.
