Lindstrom Precision Tools

Funny how a person never stops learning new things and this story took me by surprise as they say. While deep in a pile of rusty old pliers this week I found the following pair that looked very well made and as I turned them over I discovered a brand name that I have never heard of before.

After doing a web search I was very surprised in finding that LPT (Lindstrom Precision Tools), is part of Snap On Industrial Brands and they have an office in Throop, PA. along with manufacturing facilities in Midland GA.

LPT is owned by SNAEurope, the successor to Bahco AB part of the Snap on, Incorporated Group. LPT was founded back in 1856 in Eskilstuna, Sweden making wire cutters invented by F.E. Lindstrom.

Hope you enjoy the few pictures I can now see why snap on wanted to buy this brand the quality is over the top in fit and finish.

Lindstrom pliers are world class! Nobody can touch the quality of their flush cutters. As much as I'll extoll the Snap On brand when it comes to pliers, Lindstrom generally out does them.

When I was in the electronics business back in UK I only used 2 brands of pliers and cutters. Lindstrom and CK. I have only found 1 pair of Lindstrom pliers and no CK here in Florida.
No doubt in my mind they are the best. All the electronic pliers are (were at least) box jointed, as are the ones in the picture.

Huh, that's not a box joint. Those are lap jointed.
Lindstrom's best electronic pliers tend to have screw adjustable joints. That's not something possible in a box joint, though for a riveted non-adjustable joint, box joint construction is the best.

I bought a few pair at a garage sale last summer, one made in Sweden the other in Spain. Very good quality, but I tend to use my Swanstrom (USA) much more. And none of them are box joint design.

Maybe there is a difference in terminology. To me a lap joint is one part layed against the other. A box joint in pliers is where one part (arm) hinges "through" the other. That is what I see in the pictures.

Think Knipex pliers wrench, cobra, etc. They are box joint. The pic above doesn't look like box joint.

I have a pair of Erem flush cut pliers and Ive heard Lindstrom is around the same level of quality.

I have picked up a number of Lindstrom cutters at estate sales for next to nothing. Most folks pass them up for Craftsman or yellow handled pliers. Very nice tools.

I have one pair of Lindstrom cutters and agree about the quality.
As far as I know, these are the only box jointed tools I have...

The Boker obviously appear to be the oldest and do appear to have been made by hand.
They are stamped Germany on the inside.

A box joint can only be made by hand. The only thing made box jointed today is either blacksmith made or surgical. I would be very surprised to see a production tool box jointed.

I've mentioned in another post, that I keep my (only pair) Lindstrom flush cutting nippers in a small tool box that I use for string instrument maintenance.

I have several other quality brands of electronic nippers and I've noticed that on instrument strings/wire, that the Lindstrom cutters snip or slice the strings smoothly and very quite, while others have a "snap" or "click" sound when nipping.
The Lindstrom slices through the wire like butter......very smooth.

I wish I could find more.....
