Lineset questions

I am looking to install 2 mini-split AC units in my garage.

One unit I'm looking at comes with 15' of lineset (not nearly enough). The other comes with none.

Am I better off getting lineset for the second unit that is long enough (but more expensive), or splicing in some additional piple for the first to make it long enough?

Also, are there any problems with lineset pipes making 90 degree bends when routing thorough studs? I know I'll likely need to separate the drain tube from the pipes.

Splicing the linesets is no problem, just make sure you're brazing them and not soft soldering. 90 degree turns aren't a problem if needed but minimizing them is prudent.

I spent several years in the HVAC biz and I think I'm relatively close to you. Let me know if you need help.

Kvom splicing isnt a problem and you can soft solder them you just have to use the right solder ( staybright#8 ) is the only soft solder to use on HVAC lines and as was stated 90's are on just make sure they are long radious HVAC 90's and not short plumbing 90's .

I was just an installer/service guy. I don't have the license to purchase equipment or the knowledge to do the load calcs and layout. That said, I do know how to install them. I'd be glad to give you a hand setting the units or hooking them up, but I'll stay away from running ductwork. I avoid fiberglass if at all possible these days.

I just had Coolray install my system here and got what I considered a fair, but not cheap deal. The reason I had them do it was I couldn't buy the equipment.

Terry your in luck mini splits dont have ductwork . I grew up and started in the HVAC bus. in Fla . I sure dont miss that fiberglass **** we do everything here in metal if theres any glass its a wrap around the metal duct not that damn glass board they use down south .

As Rick says, there is no ductwork and no insulation to contend with, as the linesets get installed before insulation.

I just had 2 installed one had a line set the outer one did not. for the 2ed one they just got a roll of coper from the truck flared it and put insulation on it and it works fine at like 1/2 the cost of buying a line set. also some have a leignth max. mine i think has a max of a 50 foot run.

Firebird that roll of copper they took out of the truck and flared was a lineset it may have been left over from another job so they gave you a break on the price but it was still a lineset . Any split system will have a lineset of some sort .

My 2ed unit was a demo unit they lost the line set to. They just used the same coper they use for a reg house ac unit. Works good. well did the fan to it stoped working the outher day replacement is susposto be put in today
