The two main brands of link belts seem to Fenner' Power Twist (red) and Jason's Acculink.(green). Anybody have any strong opinion of one vs the other? Jason makes the one HF sells but that is not the size I need. I will buy whichever I can get a better deal on unless somebody can suggest a reason to prefer one of them. The only one I have ever used is the old style with the metal pins, which worked well. Thanks.

They are great for industry when you have a broken belt on a machine that down time cost thousands an hour. They do decouple vibrations as well. But we always replace them as soon as the correct belt comes in. The wear pulleys funny but I am taking industrial equipment running 24-7.

I much prefer to convert to micro V/poly v belts (like the serpentine belt on modern cars) but many are lazy and don't want to take the time/effort to do so.

Ive used them both on numerous applications. Both are good, never had a problem w/ either brand. However I prefer the power twist (red), seems more supple (not in a bad way) and easier to get the links together due to that.

I've used the green ones from HF on a couple saws, and used the red that came on another machine when I bought it. both colors worked fine and I never noticed any difference in them.

as far as size, I didn't realize there was a difference. after adjusting the length, I thought they just found their own spot in the pulley regardless of width. not the case?

.

X2, I don't like them on Zamak or aluminum pulleys, probably be OK on cast iron pulleys, but I'd still only use them on something like a lathe where the spindle would need to be disassembled to replace the belt. I prefer the notched AX or BX belts.

They come in the same widths as fixed length V belts. It never occurred to me to use the wrong size.

I work as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic and we keep a few of the Fenner belts on hand for emergencies but always remove and replace with the correct belt when it arrives. I don't care for them myself but I know some of my co-workers love them and I have to keep after them to replace them once the correct belt arrives otherwise they would leave them on full-time. Again this is on equipment that runs 24/7/365 so in a home shop environment you would probably be fine either way.

I tried a Jason (ie HF) on my Delta DP and it was super noisy compared to a std. V- belt. I couldn't stand it and went back to a std. V-belt.
