Anyone have a link to a readable International Residential Code(2006)? I have the one for the NEC and was hoping to find a similar one for the IRC.

Thanks,
J

I've never seen one but it would come in real handy sometimes. The International Code Council is big on selling books so they don't like to let the code get reproduced and distributed for free.

Do you have any specific questions to ask that people here can help you with?

I called and talked to the inspector regarding ceiling (and the attached wall) material's that meet code for an attached garage.

He said that I have to have a minimum of 1/2" drywall on the attached wall.

He said that the ceiling does not have to be drywall IF IT HAS 1/2" SEPARATION. I could not immediately picture this, so asked for an explanation. The best he could tell me was this:
"If you drywall all the way to the rafter on the attached wall - that is 1/2" separation"

That makes sense to me now. I THINK. :)

I plan to use 5/8 Type X drywall on the attached wall and run it all the way up to the rafters(they are 24" O.C.), and then I plan to use 1/2" plywood for the ceiling. This is a DIY job and I have not ever drywalled before, the idea of hanging drywall sheets above my head sounds miserable to me. If I go the plywood option, I can use the nail gun.

My other 2 thoughts were as follows:
1. To cut the receptacles for the lights after the plywood ceiling is hung, in order to eliminate having to try and mark and cut the holes out.

2. I asked the maximum height that the main breaker in the service panel can be. The answer is 78" - I have a new 42 slot box to install and have a 2' block wall as a base, so the wires entering the bottom of the box would get a little tight if I could not go up so high.

That is probably more than anyone wants to know, but I still wouldn't mind having a link to the codes if anyone has it in their stash.
