I don't mind help someone out if they exhibit some level of capabilities, but seeing absolutely ignorant first posts with little to no followup gets old fast.
As to my OP, had another 1 post wonder tonight that joined, bumped a thread from 2+ years ago and posted a link to spam their product. Has Ryan been doing SEO? Have AI post bots gotten better?
Regardless, my suggestion would be either a post limit (verified by mod?) to post links or challenge question to post.
for the bit of spam we see on the board, vs what Ryan ( and the software) catch before they are posted is remarkable
Am I just unlucky that my 3am insomnia coincides with the spam that gets through?
I suspect it's targeted knowing there's less moderation at that time of the day ... and maybe that's when the spammers are awake, too.

I'm a moderator on another forum. I'm kind of surprised that here on GJ, embedded images, links, and the like are allowed with new members; my intro post contained images of things I had made in my woodshop, and I saw it post immediately. The solution, sadly, is to have moderators set things up to allow the forum robots to filter through new posts and flag them for moderation based on content, which of course always confuses the legit posts ("why can't I see my post?"). Spammers, of course, understand what is going on, and most just move on.
We also have a hard rule of 15 posts and 15 days before you can list objects for sale in the classifieds, or respond to a listing.

What you guys don't see is the Approval Queue. It's in the upper left and generally has a few users awaiting approval.

I reported one in the 0300 hour last night that was written in colloquial American English from a Chinese producer of titanium fasteners. It read surprisingly well. No doubt AI has become part of the spammers' toolkit.

I can't really answer exactly what and how it is done, but stuff gets flagged by the GJ magic curtain.
Multiple accounts, country of origin IPs don't match registration IP or IPs that are listed as black listed for Spam are some of the reasons.
I hope not.

IP showed Moldova and I believe I remember those previous accounts he mentioned.
He mentioned something about SEO as well, so not sure what that was....
