Liquid electrical tape - who's using it?

Hey Guys,

Did a quick forum search and didn't really see anything regarding the use of liquid electrical tape...

Who is using it? Are you using it for applications outside of "traditional" electrical tape?

Personally I use it a lot on my boat for the electrical system wiring. It creates such a nice moisture-proof barrier. But today I also used it to coat a non-stainless fastener where I would have liked to use a stainless fastener. I'm guessing it will hold up quite well.

Any other unusual or different places you are using liquid electrical tape?

I think it's a great product personally!

Had a few splits in the vinyl on the door panels in my firebird. Dabbed some liquid electrical tape on it, can't hardly notice.

I tend to solder my joints and then use some heatshrink. Makes for a pretty durable connection.

i used it on several connections on my trail truck.

6 years now and i havent had an issue with any of those connections

also used it for some ****** creations on some halloween decorations when i ran out of red paint

I use it a lot at home when I do repairs... Not so much at work since when something electrical needs fixings they either replace the harness or put in Deutsch Terminals. No splice and connect stuff.

I do the same with the boat stuff, and then as an extra "layer of security" I slap on some liquid electrical tape...probably not necessary but it makes me feel better.

I have one shallow connection underground (electric dog fence wire) that I did using solder, heat shrink, and LET, and it's been solid for like 7 years now.

And that's New England (freeze and thaw)...

I like it for covering connections that might vibrate loose.

I agree it can be messy. But if you use other tools other than the standard brush that comes with the can, you can work it pretty well. It's kind of like using caulk in my experience...cleans up easily too if you do it quickly after application...

I don't use it for traditional tape uses. but have in a some awkward places where I was dealing with exposed conductors I didn't want stray conductive materials getting into and heat shrink and regular tape was not an option.

It stays quite flexible, but not so much to undermine the connection.

It's good for sealing up small nicks and tears in weatherstrip around doors and trunks.

only things I don't like about it are that it has a very strong chemical odor that will persist all day in your car if you dont have the windows down and that it can get messy.
