I have used cat litter to clean up oil and other fluids over the years. I hear it's not that great but it works when you have cats and is pretty cost effective.

What are my other options?

Thanks.

Ayuh,..... Speedi-dry from the parts houses is the same as kitty litter,......

Dry sawdust works quite well,.....
Dry sand in a pinch,....
Soppin' it up with rags works,.....

The oil-sorp type products do work better, and in most cases can be cheaper. That said, I never remember to buy any, but we do have a cat, so you can guess what I use.

Some cat litters turn to stone and stick to cement. I learned this when someone brought their own materials for clean up. Never again.
I use whatever floor dry Napa has available.

I don't remember what it was called, but I once bought some sort of space-age absorbent made of ground-up corncobs.

I didn't think it was possible, but that stuff made the problem worse; I had ATF smeared all over the damn place and the floor stayed oily until I put down some old-fashioned clay-based oil dry.

Clumping cat litter is definitely no bueno; you need the "regular" old-fashioned kind. I usually just buy real live Oil-Dri brand; a bag lasts a long time, so it's not that expensive, and it doesn't have a bunch of nasty-*** perfume like cat litter.

New cat litter would make your shop smell better, but to each his own. I use floor dry absorbent that I buy at Napa. I also use saw dust when I have had my table saw out for a project.

I bought the oil dry type product at Sams club but I also have the Kitty litter in the pole barn as well. The oil dry is finer than the litter, but when the oil is on the concrete, you will toss anything on it to contain it. Saw dust works also!

We use a product called Stardust. Super fine powder that really ***** the oil out of concrete. You'll pay 20 bucks for 1.5 cubic foot bag but the stuff is reusable until it turns black. One bag has lasted me 3 years. It also comes in a 3 lb. bottle for $9.

I use newspaper. I do not want any more dust/ grit in my shop. Especially when you have oil places opened up. I know it is only a small chance.
