I came across a real good one last night. Burned my old buffer out working on the gelcoat on the boat. Picked up one on clearance from HF and was real suprised how well it worked.

I bought an inflator from them for ~$5 a while back. It hooks to the compressor and makes a good seal on your valve stem. You pull the trigger to fill and then release and you see the current pressure in the tire. It has worked really well and is great in it's simplicity.

tie down straps, bungee cords, hammers, great price on garage wall hangers. tool box ( i use it for home reapir tools to keep them seperate), have used their vice grips to make welding clamps/fixtures out of, wood drill bits, hole saws (wood) good for the price. bought some wrenches to bend up for tight places. theres quite a few home repair tools you may only use every few years and the cheap price makes them acceptable

bad: broke a set of ball joint forks, almost took finger with it, most pliers are ****, wont try their screw drivers, come along is useless.

2 ton engine hoist = plan to buy one this weekend. Like jack stands if the welds are sound, should be good to go. I am however planning on the jack going bad sooner rather than later. Everything I've looked at in the $250 and down range locally seem to be exactly the same unit, so I'm going with the $150 one.

This is not bad at all, if it will hold a 1100 pound Cummins 5.9 I would say it should be good for most any motor. I had my motor hang from it over night a couple nights in a row and the cylinder didn't sag at all over night, was really impressed.

Wow that is an old thread.

Harbor Freight is a great alternative for "getting in the game" if you are an up and coming mechanic or occasional weekend wrencher. I personally think HF has vastly improved in the past 5 years. I was eyeballing their new polished long handle combonation wrench set the other day...it's a really good copy of comparable Snap-on/Mac wrenches. I mostly use higher end tools on a daily basis, but like HF for throwaway items such as Nitrile gloves, whizzy scotchbrite discs and drill bits. Their "Earthquake" line of air tools seems decent too. Great topic.

I bought a 3/8 drive stubby air rat, 25 foot pounds of torque. I put a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter on the head, great for under dash work, noisy as all hell. I love it just the same. I think it was $20, they only issue is the the rubber on the hand grip is starting to tear at the base.

My second try, I got dial calipers that have worked out very well. And I don't care too much if and when I drop and break them.
