Lista Drawer Retention - Rolling Cart/Box

So recently the need has come up at my new job to possibly think about a service cart/box to do some material handling/restock/etc... Was originally thinking getting a KRL1056, now I'm debating a Lista 900 series..

I'm familiar with Lista cabinets in stationary applications. What I'm afraid of is as I go about my business doing my plant restocking, i'll hit a bump and all the drawers will open up

Related question...is there a "non lockable" lock out there to fit most...meaning no key, just something that works the locks/unlocks mechanism in the box. I dont need it for theft/security just drawer retention security.

OR is there a pre-configured mobile box which would suit my needs?

If you buy a preconfigured mobile box it will have the drawer locks installed on the right hand side of the drawers. You can also convert a bench to mobile by installing the same locks, they just slide in place of the cap for the drawer handle.

Hmm...think I know what you mean, but I dont think the 900 series has that?

I don't think they offer the wide range of individual drawer lock options that they do on their standard cabinets. Worst case you can just get a key delete kit, which replaces the tumbler with a 1/4 turn knob to lock everything without a key. I know vidmar has offerings with individual drawer locks on their counter height cabinets. Lista probably also, but again those are in their non "tool box" line. Ask member motohead extreme he's a lista dealer, or even Linda.

I'm sure the Prevent Tip Safety System is standard on all of Lista's mobile boxes.....the lawyers would have a field day otherwise!

My employer has some Lista mobile boxes that are at least 20 years old and they have positive latches on the right hand side of the drawer handle.

Not only does it have drawer latches, but I think it's configured to allow one drawer open at a time.

The Lista locking system includes a one drawer at a time interlock system. This is how it works.... When all drawers are closed, all drawers can be opened at the same time. When one drawer is opened, it latches the others shut preventing you from opening too many drawers at the same time.

In a mobile situation the drawer handle is fitted with either a right or left side Individual Drawer Latch (IDL) which prevents the drawers from opening unless your trip the latch with your finger under the handle as you pull the drawer open.

Even with the IDL, the one drawer at a time interlock works.

I would NOT RECOMMEND using a key lock or a thumb lock on a mobile cabinet as the only means to keep the drawers shut. I have seen too many instances of forgetting to lock a cabinet and having all of the drawers open at the same time.

Whenever we move Lista cabinets we make it a habit to make sure the cabinet drawers are locked. I have been at Lista processing our Junkyard Specials and have moved a cabinet or two and have forgotten to check the locks. Inevitably the drawers all open at the same time and the cabinet flips onto it's face. Into the junk pile at that point.

One more point. If you have a Lista cabinet in a mobile truck application, use IDL's instead of locking the key lock. I have seen where the rocking back and forth of heavy loads have broken a lock bar due to excessive stress and vibrations on the locking system.

If anyone needs the IDL's they are less than $4 each. A good investment in safety.

It is standard on LISTA cabinets, but there is no OSHA requirement it. Most other tool box companies have nothing like this at all. I'm actually surprised that OSHA has not made this type of safety system mandatory.

Both Individual Drawer Latches and Lock in - Lock out latches are available for every Lista cabinet. If you turn a stationary Lista into a mobile unit, just swap out the handle latches for about $4 each and you now have a safe box.

No need to worry about all the drawers opening up; just add Individual Drawer Latches (IDL's) onto each drawer and they will stay latched shut. Another great option is the lock in - lock out latch (LILO) which is great to keep a drawer open when your mobile unit is on a slope. But the LILO has to be built in during manufacturing. The IDL's are a very easy field retrofit and they are available in both right and left hand at less than $4 each.

ALL mobile cabinets, and that includes mobile toolboxes, leave the factory with IDL's installed. Unless specified otherwise ALL stationary cabinets, including stationary toolboxes, leave the factory with non-locking handle end caps.

The IDL's can be optioned in a stationary cabinet build and are available for field retrofit. All Lista cabinets use the same handle design and end cap profile.

So to condense this all...my impression is that I can buy a Lista cabinet...any cabinet, any series, and add/change/remove features as necessary or as my needs change.

Yup. That just about sums it up. Lista will custom configure from standard items or will design a custom application solution.
