Just curious if anyone has purchased a lock for their 1980's, 2nd generation Lista drawer cabinet?

Have a part number? I already called Lista and they gave me a part# , but curious if anyone has the same lock.

Thanks in advance.

You will need to tell me how the lock engages with the lock rod. There are several options.

In the pics below are an old style and a new style lock. The old style is a fixed core while the new style has a removable oval shaped core. The key element is how the lock rod hooks to the existing lock. Unfortunately the old lock picture does not have the correct backside for your cabinet but at least it shows the front core.

Is it a 1/4" square rod or a round rod? If it is a round rod does it have a lock disk in the back that is about 2" round>

If you can take some pictures of the back of the lock and where the lock rod engages the lock bar, I can probably figure it out for you.

I suspect that your lock uses a round lock rod with a disk on the lock rod end, The last one I got for a customer we had to order it from the lock manufacturer in Germany.

Hey thanks joe.

The cabinet I have takes a small aluminum rod. When I bought the cabinet, the lock was still in it but someone had drilled it out as usual. I finished taking out the old lock but it crumbled to pieces when it came out. I have since misplaced it so I don't have the number off it.

Here is a pic of the locking mechanism in the back and another of a lock I think might work. The lock was all steel I do remember that. My cabinet was made in the 80's I was told.

You can use a new style lock and square rod. PM me your contact info and I can send them out to you.

Is the white cam also gone? I don't have them in stock and would probably have to scrounge around to locate some.

That is a real old style lock that was made in Germany by the DOM-Sicherheitstechnik lock company. It may be a lot easier and definitely cheaper if you could make/modify your lock rod to fit the new style lock. Do you think that is possible?

I sourced one of those locks a few years ago and they were like $60 and the one I sourced looked the same but had a different lock rod mounting; the later generation square mount.

Let me know if you think the new style lock can be adapted. I'll be at Lista today and see if some of the old timers can shed some light on the subject.

I was at Lista and talked with the person who buys the locks. He has not seen the one you have for a very long time. That's a generation 1 cabinet lock which has been out of production for a very, very long time.

A gen 2 lock should also work. I think I may be able to find one of those.

Joe,
If you know a source (maybe your shop?) for the white cam, square rod and retainer clip that holds the rod into the back of the lock cylinder please let me know. I have 2 second generation SC900 cabinets. Have all of the lock cylinders but missing a few key pieces to make the second cabinet lock operational.
Thanks,
Ken

Looks like Joe is the one who wrote the post directly above yours, 7 years ago. I have to say I certainly have a lot of respect for Joe and American Workspace.

We have a lot of lock parts in stock, mainly for the newer style DOM locks and associated pieces. The OLD ones with the back nut are impossible to get BUT the newer style locks will fit and can be made to work. Not directly but with a little ingenuity on how to adapt the two lock rod styles.

Feel free to call me on 800-618-8028 and we can talk through and plausible solutions.

Joe
