I, also, refuse to use Facebook.

It's a damned privacy invading plot just to sell us out to the advertisers.

Linda@Lista, someday you should run contests that aren't based on something a significant portion of your target market refuses to use.

Heh. I'm sure this is the last contest Lista will run on Facebook.

No, wait, that's not true...

This is the last contest Linda will go out of her way to let us know about here on GJ. The power of the Journal is impressive.

Sorry Linda, but I'm another one who refuses to submit any personal data to Mr. Zuckerman's company...Good luck to all who have or will enter...

The recent Toyota Venza commercial that lampoon's social networking still says it best; the facebooking daughter stays home alone with her 687 "friends", while her less connected parents (with 19 friends) are actually out for a day of activities with "real" friends.

Lista has a great product...looking forward to a contest that includes potential customers like me and others like me.

You guys are out of touch with reality. Just open an account and use limited information if that is an issue then lock down all the security stuff.

Telling any company not to use Facebook is like asking why anyone would want to advertise during the superbowl, that's where the market is now. Social networking is the new medium. Prizes and giveaways are a constant there.

My wife has more work from her facebook business page than any other advertising she has done so far.

As far as saying that any significant portion of Lista potential customers do not have Facebook, I highly doubt you could find stats to back that up.

In when I get home and can access our account, that is IF it is open to Canadian, which I doubt :(

Sorry to everyone who isn't able to enter. The application used for the contest is supported by Facebook so there isn't a way around it. As for our Canadian fans, it's all due to various country contest laws...but the free xpress shipping promo is indeed eligible for those in Canada.

For all of our Canadian folks, you should feel welcome to enter our monthly giveaway contests.

We are not trying to alienate anyone by using Facebook. We would probably get the same kind of reaction if we launched a contest here and people refused to enter it because they don't believe in forums. I promise to try and include everyone, whenever possible, in our giveaways.

Good luck to all that have already entered!

Running a "Contest" or "Prize Program" via various marketing channels - is really a way for a Vendor to measure the effectiveness of spending advertising dollars via that specific marketing channel.

No need to be upset, nor feel maltreated because you are not a member of Facebook. The contest is limited to Facebook because that is the media being tested so to speak. Lista isn't actually giving anything away - they are paying in goods to measure the effectiveness of communicating with a mass market via a very mass media.

It has nothing to do with being "fair" to everyone Comrade.

By the way - "the Garage Journal" itself is a form of "social networking", only far more specific in common interests than Facebook.

FWIW,
Carl B.

I had the same thought about facebook as others until recently. I am the youngest of 9 kids (im 44) and have not even talked to some of my sister or brothers in years. THats just how we are, we communicate via our mom on our sunday calls to her. Since all our own kids were on facebook they started to reach out to their cousins and aunts and uncles. Now all my brothers and sisters are on facebook and we communicate almost daily now. We have a family "wall" and thats about the only people I have connection with on FB. It's been a great means to communicate and stay in touch for me. In six months I have had no spam etc from FB. Only very general info on there.

And again thanks Linda for sharing the offer to GJ.

I will say this in as polite a way as possible; when I say I will NOT support Mr. Zuckerman's company, that is what I meant. I am in no way "out of touch". People here dislike many [tool] companies for various reasons. I dislike Facebook for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who knows the history of the company. Glad it's working for your wife. Glad it works for anyone who uses it. I choose not to drink the Zuckerman prepared Kool-Aid.

Also, while I didn't make the referenece to Facebook's demographics, I CAN certainly help support the statement through Google Analytics. Facebook grew by 145% in 2010. Undisputable. However, the largest single demographic growth was in women over age 55. If that demographic fits the Lista customer, then they'll be infinitely successful with this campaign, because every Grandmother needs a Lista cabinet to store their sewing and knitting supplies.

If you want to get into stats, I can do that **** all day long, but that really iisn't the intent of this thread; Many of us voiced our thanks to Linda (and Lista) while also voicing our dislike for Facebook. I can appreciate your like of Facebook, without the need to attempt to insult your intelligence; please make an effort to have the same respect for the rest of us who simply do not share your same view.
