lista cabinets appear to be the same as stanley vidmars, would that be an accurate statement? are any of the parts interchangeable? i am familiar with vidmars because we use them at work. hadn't heard of lista until i came to this board.

why does my lista always lock its self like a drawer is open but not. I have to use the key to unlock it and lock it a few times to get it to work again.

We have lots of Lista cabinets at work. Sometimes they get stuck shut when people slam a drawer shut or close a drawer when another one is slightly open. Occasionaly something will fall over the back of the drawer and jam the lock rail.

The lock rail is hinged verticaly on the back wall behind the drawers. This rail engages tabs on the back of each drawer to hold them shut. The lock rail also only allows one drawer at a time to be open. The key lock system holds the lock rail (which holds the drawers) in the "closed" position. Because our keys have been "lost" for years I keep a 1/8" x 1" x 36" steel strip handy to "unlock" cabinets. I slide it in over the top drawer and flip the lock bar "open" about once a month; it takes about 10 seconds.

You can easily access the lock bar by removing the drawers. Roll the drawer out, tilt it up and then lift it out of the slides. Once you see how it works you should be able to quickly fix your problem.

This is more of a marketing question, but has Lista ever considered a trade-up program where you trade in a competitors box for a small discount on a Lista product?

There are definitelly some similarities, but Lista is oh so much more bang for your buck :)
As for parts being interchangeable, I would say they're not. I'm sure people have finagled a way around that factor and have made them interchangeable but I myslef haven't heard about it

Wow, thanks for that detailed explanation, Mike!

Hmmmm, not that I have heard of, then again I've only been around for a year. Do others do it?

I believe this is done by some of the tool truck companies. The franchise rep will then take the trade-in and sell it somewhere else.

I asked Lista to do this for a client of mine for the new Tech Series and I was told Lista will not accept trade-ins.

One quick differentiator, among many, that I can offer are the pull handles. Stanley's protrude and I'm sure are the cause for many bruises. Lista's drawer handles are flush with the face of the cabinet so you won't be banging into anything untless you walk into the cabinet itself... :bounce:

Once you have some Lista cabinets it is easy to make nice labels for the drawers. I use Excel to make a spreadsheet of what I want the labels to look like, print them out, cut them to size (I use a large paper cutter but scissors or a razor knife will work) then slide them into the handle. I usually use colored paper to visually separate the drawers by what they contain (nuts, bolts, size, metric or standard thread, etc.).

Lista labels usually are about 1" tall and about 25 1/2" wide (3 times the width of a sheet of paper). My Excel spreadsheet is set up so that the row size is the same as the height required for the label. 3 rows on the printout sheet gives me a label for one drawer. To get started format the row height @ 64 and the font @ 48 set to BOLD, you may have to adjust the row height as needed.

To remove the end cap on the handle, press the square button inside of the drawer while sliding the cap out of the end of the handle. Insert the label behind the clear plastic and replace the end cap.

Thanks so much for your tutorial Mike! Do you mind if I share it on Facebook along with your photos? I'm sure a lot of people will be happy to learn this new DIY method of label making!

I was under the impression Snap On trucks were independent franchises where owners could make there own policies to build customers and make sales.

You're right. They are independent owners/operators. I have had the same experience with all of my S.O. dealers so I'm under the impression that it is a sanctioned practice by S.O. I could be wrong.....

Linda, post it with my compliments. I have done a couple of hundred drawers, Lista and Brand X cabinets. The secret to making it go quickly is to get the row height set correctly on the Excel spreadsheet so that the distance from the bottom of a line of print to the bottom of the next line of print is the same as the height of the finished label. Once that is set you can cut the paper sheet directly into correct size labels.

Experimenting with different fonts and paper colors can result in some nice custom drawers.

thanks

My code (if I remember correctly) actually came off a pack of labels.

"To locate the required LogIn number, look in the upper left hand corner of each label sheet"

So, buy a pack of Lista labels and you will have the code.

Linda,

noticed that you are offering free shipping on Listaexpress items. Do you know if any of the hanging cabinets are available for this? I would like to order (4) 30W x 29H x 15D.

thanks,

Hi Rob, if the hanging cabinets you are thinking about begin with the letters XS in front of the product then absolutely. I have a feeling though that you may be thinking of ones that are not xpress. Really, everything on this site is included. http://listaxpress.com/index.php
I hope this helps...

I'm sure it would probably be cost prohibitive but it would be really cool if you offered all stainless Steel cabinets as an option.

Hi Alpinewhite, what is your e-mail address? I'll need to have a customer service rep get back to you as I'm not sure of the answer.

Hi rhastings, unfortunatelly that promotion ran last year and was only applicable to shipments within the continental US, Canada, and Mexico.

Linda...while I do love my Lista pedestal desk/bench I purchased earlier this year, one thing bugs me. Why wouldn't both pedestals come with matching locksets? I mean, both pedestals were purchased together along with a stainless top. Even paid for a color upgrade. It really didn't occur to me that they'd send different locks to the same bench.

any way to get one lock swapped out to match the other?

thanks

Hi canuckian,
I asked customer service about this and here is what they said:

We know it is odd, but when more than one cabinet is ordered it must be specified if they want them keyed alike. We have assumed in the past that people want them the same and in the end they do not because it is a shared desk.

All you will need to get them to be the same is to tell us what one of the lock #'s is and you can order a core lock and core removal tool to switch one of the locks out.

IC-CORE-KA Key # example 2C-1 21.99
IC-REL-TOOL 18.76

I think your next best bet would be either to contact our sales department or the rep you worked with. The 877 number is 877-GO-LISTA (877-465-4782). I hope this helps.

Linda, would you be able to help me match the color of blue used on the drawers of my Lista box? I believe I have the manufacturing date, if that would help. I also have pictures.

Thanks a lot.

Hi there, let's start with pictures, and or a quote, if you have that. Why don't you e-mail me, [email protected]

Hi Linda,

I am including one picture here in this thread, and will attach a different one to an e-mail I will send you in just a few minutes.
