For my 20x24 garage im thing of going with 12 Lithonia sb232 fixtures, and rather than buying bulbs , I'm thinking about going to a 5,000k led bulb right away..what would be the benefit/disadvantage to this? Would there be a different fixture that would better suit my needs? This fixture is fairly low cost so it seems to be monetarily feasable...

No need to buy a fixture and toss the ballast. Please see bulbs and housings in post #1 of Best Light Fixture Sticky. Linked below.

Sounds like a solid plan. Whatever place you buy them should have the ballast compatible tubes in 5000k that will fit right in. Easy peasy.
Benefits: Easy installation, low cost, good light spread, clean look.
Disadvantages: Depends on your annual hours of operation. Over 4000 or 5000 hours, there are more efficient products. If your hours are under that, it wont make any difference.
Good luck,
CD
