Picked up a drill press with a pretty decent condition Jacobs 633c chuck. Hadn’t been used in some time. So I went to disassemble for a good cleaning and check the jaws. Instead of supporting the sleeve all the way around, I placed it in my vice supported by either side. You guessed it - fractured the sleeve.
They are no longer made, although they can be found. While googling I came across an article that said a sleeve from a 34-33would fit. Ordered one from MSC and it does NOT fit. So it’s going back.
So I guess my questions for those with greater experience is are there sleeves that WILL fit this chuck? Should I look for a good used one (same model) and keep the extra for spare parts? Is there another brand I should consider thats comparable? Or should I just eat the plate I cooked, and buy a new 34-33? Appreciate any thoughts as I’m so angry with myself I can’t think objectively. Thanks
