Little Hossfeld -- What am I missing?

This was an impulse buy, and might have been a stupid one. It's the Hossfeld Number 1 model, which has a smaller capacity than the Number 2. I haven't cleaned any of it up yet, or even cracked the manual -- which I'll do. But I thought I'd post a quick picture and see if there are any obvious and essential pieces I'm missing (and if anyone has an idea for where to source the missing pieces).

But I'm super-cheap, and those Hossfeld dies (while great) are also pricey. I'm thinking about making some of the parts I'd need for square tubing, with maybe something like this at the core. It's a modular square tubing die made by Howron -- you stack as many pieces as you need, like a dado blade, and then fasten it together.

For $225 delivered, I can get the dies for:

  1. 1/8" edge bend
  2. 1/4" edge bend
  3. 3/8" square tubing
  4. 1/2" square tubing
  5. 5/8" square tubing
  6. 3/4" square tubing
  7. 7/8" square tubing
  8. 1" square tubing
  9. 1 1/8" square tubing
  10. 1 1/4" square tubing
  11. 1 1/2" square tubing

    Here's the official setup.

With about 1/8" of shimming in the bender arms themselves, I could fit in the roll bender dies from my Harbor Freight large-radius bender also. I'm not sure exactly how it would work, but a guy built a small radius bender with his roll bender dies in this video. I wonder if something like that could be incorporated into the Hossfeld design. It might not work -- the pin locations on the bender might not be right.

But I'm thinking about it, now.

Jack,
I inherited a #2 a couple of months ago and went through the same process of figuring out what was missing. The obvious missing element is the handle but just about anything would work for that. I have not done much tubing bending with mine yet but I have discovered that bending on top of the machine is really handy for rod. The block and cam as well as the wavy block are great for making sharp bends. I haven't had the need to do anything serious with mine yet but I understand there is a "must have" book from Hossfeld that details the setups. Also, I have been told that the American bender stuff can be cheaper. Unfortunately, I don't know if they make compatible dies for the #1. My understanding is that the dies are not interchangeable.

Yeah, I've been told that American Bender does not make dies for the #1. Hossfeld has some videos that show bending up on the top side. There's clearly a real learning curve involved in these things, but they're capable of a lot.

There is nothing missing per say as all the stuff is individual based on what you want to do.
There are a thousand more pieces you could get but may never need.
And generally most stuff you may need could be fabed up to work.

Great deal, they can be fun to use

Wow. Cool! Looks to me that a plasma cutter is next on the list.

Know where I can download the Hoss manual? The HF unit I have is mostly a mystery to me and any manual HF has is next to having nothing at all.
