Bought these off CL yesterday, picking them up tomorrow. Paid $160 for both, in (I'm told) working order.

I'm told they came out of a Navy yard, and they are NOT 3 Phase machines. If you look at the cord ends they do appear to not be 3 phase machines. Anyone possibly recognize manufacturer's? DP "could be" Atlas?

Thanks in advance, Todd.

I can't tell who the maker it, but post some more pics after it's home. Old pedestal grinders are so cool. In the second pic what on the end of the chuck?

Yeah, I've been wondering that too? Almost looks like some sort of "splatter guard," as if something they were drilling was throwing chips or something :dunno:

You can plainly see the chuck inside of it in the first pic.

Looks like a floor model Delta DP220, a 14" drill press. Possibly a black and decker/stanley grinder.

Safety guard.

That safety guard is spring loaded and colapses as you drill down. Sort of neat. I bought one for one of my previous units just to pass our safety inspections.

About the only time I've found them more useful than legal, is for small diameter (high speed) drilling with coolant. They prevent the coolant from traveling up the flutes and being slung all over. I keep one around just for that. Otherwise for dry drilling they are just in the way and slow you down IMHO.

I believe that hiding under that sheet metal shroud is a Delta DP220 drill press with a massive motor hanging off the back.

It's probably around 3/4hp, the old RI delta motors are much larger than their modern counterparts.

Looks like B&D 1 HP, single phase grinder. Drill press wouldn't run so I left it. It was a Delta.

This thing is huge, shields, rests, lights inside both shields, exhaust tubes, quench tray all in place.
