We all know the big tool box manufacturer and sellers but I am curious if there are tool boxes out there that are excellent quality that most people dont know about...I would consider Lista in this group

Do people have opinions here?

Snap-On, Mac, Cornwell, Craftsmen, Matco, Kobalt and the other big popular names do not apply in this topic

Montezuma is great. Their portable boxes are still made right in Montezuma Kansas. Great staff easy to work with.

We have sold many of their large boxes mainly the 56 in sets and 72 in base cabinets. It is one of the brands we favor here. It is not uncommon to get thank you calls when people get their new boxes and complaints on their product line are virtually unheard of.

Are the Montezuma and Mountain boxes the same? The pictures of the Mountain stuff looks just like the pics from Montezuma's website.

The Montezuma Crossover is on my short list. I have read that the top box is US made but not sure. It may all be Chicomm.

I really like that top unit there! Hanging wrenches and the socket holder at an angle. Thats a space saver for sure!

My main concern is the gas cyclinders that hold up the socket tray. 20 years down the road will they hold it up. You know it will be filled to capacity by then :).

The crossover concept, really struck me as innovative but I don't know how well, it would work in real world usage.... aside from the top box; I guess it is just a normal rollaway bottom. It is a interesting take, on the storage conundrum we all seem to be facing; how to organize all the tons of tools we have and have them accessible in a manner that is conducive to accessing the tools we need quickly, easily and getting our work done faster. On the other hand; you are forced to use the organizational structure that they have provided; without any customization ability on your part, not necessarily at bad thing... as long as the "organizer" works well! I wonder... Anyone try or look at one of these crossover setups at the of the tool shows lately?

like the socket concept, don't think i'd like having to fish a wrench out from behind them though. I'm fortunate in that I work off a tool cart and don't have to lock my tools at night ( only 2 of us in the shop). I have a magnet on both sides of my cart that holds combo wrenches on one side and ratchet wrenches on the other. Just grab and go. Sockets stored on the top of the cart. Again, I don't have to lock up my tools.

I hope that you leave a rather large dog in the shop at night.

What if you ever get robbed?

I had a trans shop that I visited when a tool dealer get robbed. They all worked out of small boxes and carts.

One night they had a customers pick up in the shop to do work on the next day.

Well the theives broke in.Loaded all the carts and tool boxes on the truck and opened the door and drove away.

The only think that was ever recovered was the truck. It was also stripped down when recoverd.

The guy had garage owners insurance but it was not much that he got in the end.

Can you post a bigger pic of your box? Does it have the socket tray on gas cylinders? Any and all info on it would be useful.

We had Lyon cabinets and they were very tough. You could easily stand in one of the drawers they were so strong. I wish that some of the high end boxes had slides like those Lyons. Looked like a piece of angle was welded onto the drawer, and then rolled on industrial cam followers. We used them for parts storage at a plant I worked at, and they were stuffed, some with several hundred pounds of parts. One of these would last forever holding tools, even the big stuff.

all three of my cpl boxes are older than that and don't have the gas cylinder. imop the older box system is a little better. the lid locks by sliding slightly to the left. less maintenance, more interior space, and the wind can't blow it shut. i also have some old literature that goes back nearly 20 years. i have what used to be a senior box and 2 smaller juniors which my avatar is. the model in the sears catalog is similar to my senior box. if i get more interest i may do a thread

You should do a thread. I'd like to see some close ups of the box and how it is organized and such. I have never seen one in person.
