Hello to all on the forum. This is my first posting, and from reading a few of the threads here, it appears this is a great site to seek and find the correct advise.

My first concern would be who is the person(s) here that know the secrets on how to get parts for a old Littlestown No. 140 machinist vise? I've had this vise some 40-50 years and one part is missing the swivil base. The vise bottom (round) in 4-1/4" dia. that would attach to the swivil base. I'm also needing the jaws (2) for this vise. These jaws are 4" in length with 2 holes for the attaching screws. The holes are 7/8" from the end and 2-3/8" center to center of the holes. I'm not too knowledgeable in knowing all the makers of vises, and it might be the items I'm needing may well work on all machinist vises.

Any help on where to buy these parts will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Everyone here is a little vise crazy it seems. Pictures are a must to help identify years/ time periods. Im no vise expert but there are plenty of people who are. There are even a few members that machine jaws for vises. Looking forward to the pics!

Thanks for the information. I sent email to Littlestown Foundry, Inc. and received a reply within hours from Steve Snyder. They stop making the Littlestown Model 140 bench vise in 1979 and stop making Vises altogether in 1990. He did give me couple pointers, make the jaw bars from regular bar stock and adapt to fit the vise. and search ebay for the 6" x 5" swivel base with 1/2" bolt hole. But that may be a long wait.

I will take a picture tomorrow and post. From searching the Internet it appears these swivel bases all look the same. The size may be the difference.

It is typical for a machine vise to have several sets of jaws suited to different jobs such as holding round stock or specific parts. Often these are made of aluminum but general use jaws are best made of steel.
I recommend that you spend the extra money on some cold rolled bar stock and make two sets
