Hey all. Live in British Columbia.
I never really know what to put here, but I am rather an open book in life.. so here goes.
Building a fair sized home. Too big now that the kids are gone, but that is what grandkids are for I guess. No rush.
I am doing most of the work myself. Started out with a crew in 2010 when we broke ground. They took care of the big work until we got our occupancy in mid 2012.
In late 2012 life hit hard, we lost a child, DH had a heart attack. We lost our business and CRA came in with a judgement that drove us into bankruptcy.
We buried our head in the sand in 2013, spent 2014 recovering and we were actually able to buy our own home back after the bankruptcy for less than we owed on it when my husband got a job up in the gas industry.
We dropped hammer in 2012 when life hit, and after the recovery were no longer able to higher contractors willy nilly as we had before.
That is where I stepped in and took over. No kids nothing but time.
I built our last home after a forest fire in 2003 in Falkland BC after our GC died of a heart attack and left us without a choice but to do it ourselves.
'03 was a bad year up here for fires and getting another GC wasn't an option.
And when I say ourselves, I mean me. My husband had a business to run.
I had been swinging hammer since I was a teenager, but just home improvement things. Nothing major.
So that experience allowed me the confidence to start building more various items that I am currently doing. I am loving it and learning lots.
My OCD is very useful for the first time.
I started the garage late last summer just so I have a "Home base' to finish the rest of the house from.
I work slow as when my husband its home I put on my wife hat.
I sure do prefer to have a drill in my hand than a dishtowel
But my long term goals are to have a woodworking hobby shop that will allow me to sell my items.
But right now, I am digging for ideas.
