I am getting ready to close on our new home next week. I am trying to plan on what is necessary for me to install.
This is new construction, the outlet for the opener is in the center of the 2 car garage. I know that I will be relocating the outlet closer to the opener, but is it ok to extension cord it for now?
Also are there any recomendations on who to buy from, I have been looking on Amazon.

Thanks,

Extension cord is okay for temp hookup. I would use at least a 15A rated cord.

Edit: FYI the instructions say never use an extension cord.

I got mine from Amazon, fulfilled by the following company. I was VERY pleased with their shipping speed and competitive price. They ship from MI, so it was next day for me to Cincinnati. I told my installer what I paid, and he said thats not much more than his wholesale price, and he buys about 60/month! I am in no way affiliated with this company, just a satisfied customer.

The 580LM Alternate Power Source allows locating the LM3800 up to 35 feet away from an outlet. Only $17.40 from the previously mentioned vendor (http://www.opendoorremote.com/)

It appears it is a remote transformer that mounts near the outlet, then you run up to 35 feet of low voltage wire (presumably 24VDC) to the opener.

That sounds like exactly what I need. I see it for a couple dollars more on Amazon, from same company, but will make install easier.

On another note... I know there are posts on it, but these seem relatively easy to install other than making sure the tracks are set up right.. anything I should be looking out for?

thx

I'm curious as to why the 580LM is listed at $18 to $25 when it was originally $100+. The Liftmaster site doesn't list it as an available accessory.

All I'm gonna say is Good Luck!
Super easy to actually install....tuning & tweaking the door to work perfectly on the other hand....And my doors were BEAUTIFULLY running by hand. I'm not joking when I say they were as smooth as a glass sliding door. Slapped a LM3800 on 2 of my 3 doors...I'm just too scared to install the last one...sitting in the original box next to the door right now.

I am not bashing the LM3800...I THINK I have my "test" door setup to where its good now...But I'll be honest, now every time the phone rings and its my wife 2 things come to mind... A) Are the kids ok... and B) that damn LM3800 & door. I just dont like feeling like this...gonna take some time to gain my trust in the opener again.

Dont forget the LM Surge Protectors. They are cheap insurance for your opener. They extend the warranty by 5 years I think. My installer said most newer lift motors are highly susceptible to electrical surges. (He wasn't trying to sell me the surge protectors, as I already had them.)

Hmmm...I hadnt thought about that, but makes sense...How would I use 2 of them on the same recep like I got:

Yeah Yeah...I gotta clean up/neaten up the actual power cords...got the velcro already in the garage, ready to go, but just one of those little details I havent done yet.

Ill take a look at mine this evening and see it if looks like they could be used on the same outlet.(one upside down on the top plug). Its all going to depend on how big the surge protectors are (mine are 12 feet up, so I'll have to get the ladder out to check them out.) Stand by...

I just installed a lm 3800 this weekend , and I'm impressed . All of the little things from the motion light sensor on the wall button . The remotes are really nice , the thing is so quiet .

Also I was able to wire the remote light in my attic to two recessed lights , and I have two doors controlling one remote light . So if either door opens both recessed lights turn on .

Note that the pipe axle for the springs may need to be longer that the usual install.

After looking at mine, I think the surge protector is small enough that you can use two of them on the same outlet. I cannot guarantee because I didn't want to unhook everything, but it looks like it will work.
