I went out today to pick up a few tools for my sons Christmas present......well... you know where this is going....I went all over hells half acre looking for USA made stuff. I know this has been beat to death but bear with me....The only Husky screwdrivers made in USA are the professional models, Kobalt screwdrivers are made by Great Neck in China. Kobalt sockets are Taiwan. All the Husky wrenches are China.....sockets are Taiwan. Went to Sears and it's a crapshoot there...over half of what they sell is China. The regular Craftsman screwdrivers are Western Forge.....they were out of the Pro models so I figure they were USA also. I'm just gonna give him money and tell him to climb on the Cornwell or Snap-On truck.

:deadhorse:deadhorse:deadhorse (there...you don't have to do it for me)

I haven't started shopping yet, I usually do it on Christmas Eve.
As for the tools, he is not going to get much for his money on a tool truck. Scour the Sears shelves really well, and if they don't have it go to one of the other Sears stores near you.

I recently encountered the same problem. We have Farm and Fleet stores near me and I went over there (actually the local ACE hardware was my first stop, nothing but China stuff there). Anyway, at F&F I spent about 45 minutes going up and down the tool isles looking for USA made stuff. I only needed to assemble a basic tool set also. I'd guess that 10% or less of the tools there were USA made. Even stuff that used to be USA built isn't anymore, or is a hit and miss chance that it is USA made. It is very discouraging. If the stuff wasn't for someone else I would have just waited and bought tools at the next few auctions or garage sales I hit.

I'm going shopping after work for my wife :p It's really for stocking stuffers. We each got smart phones for Christmas.

lowes/homedepot=walmart of the home improvement world. Actually most well known chains consumer-retailers are walmart-like in nature. Including sears/kmart. They have to appease shoppers by volume/traffic.

Hence the reason you don't go to chains looking for higher quality tools. Ever now and then you will find some, but it is often not quite the case.

You have more than one Sears store near you?
Out here in Calif, they are pretty far apart these days, since they've closed so many of them.
