Picked this thing up as part of a box of old tools. Can’t find much about it. Is it something that is worthwhile keeping?

I would keep it for a decoration for around the house more than anything :)

Looks like like its just a simple volt meter used to test the individual cells in a wet cell battery (like your typical automotive battery). Not a real common test done anymore as there are safer, less messy ways to do it these days.

How it basically works is, you pop the caps off the battery, dunk the negative lead in one of the wells and put the positive lead on the positive terminal. You should have ~2 volts per cell on the gauge if all is well and good.

Any voltmeter should be able to do that test, but the acid will eat most probes. Yes, that is a good test to identify a bad cell, but you can't replace a single cell ...
