I've moved several big boxes with a drop gate trailer.

Put your fixed casters so they are going up the ramp first. A piece of plywood will help the casters make the hop from the ground to the ramp. I use a come along or 2 big ratchet straps to pull it up the ramp. Sure you can man handle it up, but you have much more control with a ratchet strap in case you have to stop half way. It's really not safe to have someone behind the box pushing. If things go wrong, they wont be able to stop a box rolling down the ramp and could get hurt. You van have someone standing near the side of the back in case you need some balance help and give them a 2x4 longer than the box is wide so they can chock the casters suddenly if they need to.

Glad you went the uhaul way. Too cheap to risk any other method available to you. I have a liftgate on 2 pickups and can handle any double bay with a little help. They stick out past the end of the gate but have a system that works. I roll the box on the gate as far as it will go and put 4 x 4's at the edge of the gate under the box. When you lift the gate, the box will be hanging off the edge by about a foot or so but with the 4 x 4's the angel isn't hateful. One person to work the gate and one to make sure the box doesn't slide off. Once the gate is up, 2 folks can easily slide the box onto the truck and often I do it by myself. Triple bays are a lot harder but i have a system for those. Tops and bottoms,,,,,,,,,,,well I have done doubles and the lift gate screams and so does my back, but triple tops and bottoms ain't happening, need a fork lift or other method.

fatfillup- since you've moved a lot of tool boxes I figure it can't hurt to ask you how to move my toolbox. If you want a pic you can go here

Im not going to move it now but in the future I think I'll HAVE to move it. New Jersey is just too expensive to live in. Have you ever moved something like mine WITH tools in it? If at all possible I'd like to load it on a trailer in one piece (top, bottom and locker) loaded up. I thought about calling a flat bed tow truck to pull it up onto the bed, then have it angled down onto a rented flat bed trailer and then use a F250(?) to drive it to its new destination. Upon getting there once again call ANOTHER tow truck driver to unload it. If something like this will work I plan on putting a heavy duty dolly under the locker to ease with loading and unloading. Truth be told I have no clue if it will roll or not. My garage is so jam packed Id really have to take around an hour or so just to make space to see if it will move.

For the record I did ask one Flat bed tow truck company what they would charge to tow it about 150miles (one way) and they wanted something astronomical! I think it was AT LEAST $1000.00 Plus he wouldn't tow it with it loaded with tools. I don't think he wanted to blow me off... I work out with the guy at the gym so he knows I'm LEGITMATLY curious. I told him for that price forget it!

90zcar- Sorry to hijack your thread. Just figured instead of making up a new thread I figured it couldn't hurt to just add on to yours.

metalhead, I would never transport a box full of tools. The problem is every bump you hit, the tools will bounce and put a lot of strain on the BB slides. That is why Snap on's heavy duty road box still used friction slides. Also, the box would be top heavy for the narrow footprint it has width wise. On avoidance maneuver or bump going around a corner and your box could go over. I am always a bit leary with tops and bottoms empty. And I have a fair amount of experience moving boxes. Also if you empty it you should be able to roll it up a ramp with a buddy to 2.
