LOADpro or Power Probe

I have both. They are completely different IMHO. 2 different tools for 2 entirely different tasks. I also have the Weakon load pro as well as the Blue Point amp hound. In addition to my multimeters. Not to mention the logic probes. All have their place for different tasks.

Buddy was trying to sell me on the power probe the other day. And honestly I cant see myself buying it anytime soon. I have made probably a hundred different types of jumpers, leads, and connectors for testing, or supplying power and what have you. I think it could very well lead to more mishaps than time it saves me (if it would at all).

As for the loadpro, if i am understanding the premise correctly, could you not just use an old sealed beam? Thats my test light. If anything else reads power, and it doesnt well then I got high resistance somewhere.

I understand having these pieces of equipment is alot nicer, or maybe a slightly more convenient package. But my equipment was free other than my time. But I dont know everything so maybe one of you can sell me on these pieces, or explain why mine might be poor practice.

You're correct that really they are just nicely packaged tools that combine a lot of features. The PP3 is a logic probe mainly that has a volt meter built in. Also has a switch to send power to components and an alligator clip for a ground if needed. Also has two bright LEDs to see what you're doing. All these things can be accomplished with a DMM, jumper wires, a flashlight, and logic probe. It's nothing special but like you said it's a convenient package. It's nice to be able to grab my PP3 and plug it into a lighter or use the alligator end to hook onto a battery and go to town testing and send power if needed. It's a luxury but if you do any amount of electrical work it's worth it.

I also have the load pro and yes it's just a resistor to load the circuit. My last time using it was a bad low beam wire. The meter and PP3 were reading voltage at the plug end. But once I loaded the circuit voltage dropped to nothing. Once again it's a lot nicer to have the loadpro on your DMM and at hand to use when needed. Instead of getting a sealed beam out to load the circuit. The leads are also nice, they have a hollow point that lets you hold it on terminal pins easy. I just keep mine on my fluke all the time.

Exactly, you can never have enough electrical tools! They all have their place, even the "old school" test lights.

How is that amp hound? Use it enough to give a review yet?

No not yet. I tried it on my own car and it does work. I even tried it on my amplifiers(aftermarket) and
It was pretty accurate. Didn't get to use it on what I really wanted to. The car I was supposed to troubleshoot a draw on got sold. He sold it with the draw issue.
