local Home Depot doesn't have red caps on caulk

Hi Guys, don't know if you've noticed, but my local HD doesn't have any of those red caps on the caulk tubes that seal the tube shut after it's been opened.

Not sure if it's something local, or if it's a bigger thing where the store wants it to be more difficult to store half used caulk, making us buy new tubes.

Not an accusation, but an observation.

Had to buy a couple of tubes of Power Grab, and the whole stock had no caps.

Nothing in the area did, so I grabbed 2 caps from the 'door and window' tubes that had a few left.

Just be on the lookout...

I haven't seen any caps at any of the local stores here in years. I either leave a little bit sticking out to dry and remove before next use or tape off the end, both work fine for me.

I assume you are refering to the squeeze tubes. The ones that need a gun never have caps in any HD I have been in - Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada...

Just stick a big nail in it when your done!

Even better, take a strip of Saran Wrap*, wrap it around the noxzzle, fold over and tape. I have used partial tubes of caulk stored for more than a year using this method.

* Use brand name Saran Wrap. The cheaper plastic wrap is oxygen permeable, and the caulk will harden.

Use caulk rubbers...it is a real thing...they work great.

Most stores would consider taking part of one product and putting it on another product being sold as theft.

No caps on any caulk tubes here, in any store, any where. HD, Lowes, Walmart, misc hardware, etc - none noted.

I have taken caulk-tube-caps off unused tubes in my own garage and tried to put them on other open tubes. They usually don't stay unless the tube has that little ridge for the cap to snap onto. Anymore, I just wrap a bit of duct tape around the end and pinch it shut.

The only open tubes I keep anymore are white calk, since I have to redo the bathtub so often (rusty water). Any other open tubes just get tossed once the project is done. I'm trying to be less of a hoarder.

I see caps only on the toothpaste style squeeze tubes. Dunno if they would work on the caulk gun tubes...never tried it.

What does work really well is a RED WIRE NUT !!!

Been using them for years...works every time and they stay on.

Generally I use the caps off gear oil bottles and use electrical tape to hold them on. It's one of the uses I have found for that 99¢ electrical tape.

I use rubber vacuum plugs on opened tubes of caulk. Go to use it a year later and its still fine.

The stores do not take them off.
They put on the shelf what the factory sends them.

I have seen, and used, electric wire nuts for this problem.
They seem to work OK.
