Same happened with large anchor Sears store in giant strip mall on my side of town closing. Now only big Sears store is 11 miles across town, instead of 1 mile away.

However, in same mall (my side of town) a small "Hometown Sears" has popped up about 6 months after the big mall anchor Sears closed. Now I have a ship-to location where I can order online and pickup only mile away. Also, I can make my Sears and Discover card payments in person at the Sears Hometown location.

Be patient OP . . . a "hometown" smaller location may pop up in your town.

Are these company owned stores or franchised locations like the old Sears catalog and Appliance stores were?

Sears Canada still puts out a catalogue, but it's not much compared to what it used to be.
In the 90's and early 2000's I could order an item and it would be delivered to the local office in 2-3 days. (just like Amazon does now)
The last time I tried to order a dishwasher from them I cancelled the order after waiting for six weeks and went to Home Depot.

I'm guessing franchise store that entrepreneur determined could make money with fees that Sears paid for handling shipments, transactions, appliances, etc. I've now been to 3 "Hometown" locations of Sears and yes they do have the "flavor" of appliance store but there are certain Sears products that will NOT ship to Hometown locations even though the website let's you "buy" it. :eyecrazy:
