Locally available good motion detector lights?

So I picked up a Brinks $25 180* motion sensor light with two floods at Walmart the other day. Figured Brinks... security company, they wouldn't put their name on just **** right?... wrong.

First, came with no instructions, none... but all the bags were still sealed so I don't think it was a used return if it was a return at all. Anyway, pretty straight forward install so I managed to get it done.

I was trying to adjust the sensor so that when I pulled into my ~2x2 car driveway it would come on at the beginning. Moving the sensor about 1/16" would cause it to change from turning on from across the street to not turning on until I was about 5 feet from the garage.

The light I am replacing is only being replaced because I sided the front of the garage and it is an eyesore. It had an awesome sensor though (which is still quite ugly).

Can anyone suggest a good locally available motion sensor light? I'm talking about a big box store available one so if it is not good enough I can return it.

I've got three Zenith, Model 5318, two lamp flood lights on my back deck and garage. They work well and come with instructions.

They are motion activated and turn off during daylight. I bought them at Home Depot for about $25. All in all, I'm satisfied with them.

you might want to try a 70w HPS wall pack with a photocell control I recently went through nearly every motion light model that homedepot had in stock with little success in desperation I got the hps wall pack and it works great cheap to run cheap to relamp and throws more light than 70 watts should

I saw the other thread about those. No pictures in action though from those who claim to have them.

I was hoping for lighting which could reach the length of my driveway, if not more. How far away from the base do those shine their light?

Either you end up adjusting it so it misses a person walking under it, or it ends up being so sensitive that it will be on all night if the wind blows leaves around.
I dumped all my motion sensors and put in dusk-to-dawn lights on photocells. They work every night and turn off every day without fail. By running florescent lamps in them, they run cheap enough that it hardly takes more electricity than the often malfunctioning motion sensors took with incandescent lights.
Everybody has their own preferences. The photocell controlled florescents are mine.

Seems like a waste to have a light on all night long in a driveway when I definitely won't be using it after 1am. That'd mean the job you are describing would be better served with a timer but no security if someone were to come onto my property.

The reviews on those lights are a little hit or miss. How much are we talking for all 4 shipped to 01527? Do they include the bulbs?

The lights worked just fine for me after I got them set up for my needs. I only removed the to install some x10 remote controlled lights that can turn each other on if one is set off. I would throw in the shipping for my asking price of $75. I don't have any bulbs to go with them as they are installed in my x10 lights. Just pm me if you are interested. I can accept paypal and ship them immediately as they are already boxed and ready to go.

Try Rab. Usually at a supply house, but the ones I deal with will take items back. I got Swoops, I like the way they look. The Super Stealth sensor works great.

I picked up the ones from ybnormal70 and will get them hopefully early next week for the holiday.

For the price, I can't beat it. I'll change out the sensor on a couple if I have to.

It is a good idea to think about light pollution with outdoor lighting.
You can still have good if not better lighting, shielded fixtures help you control both the placement and the amount of light so you only the light you need and less glare.

This is a great point my neighbors have lights on all night makes my beadroom very bright. Some people need to grow up and ditch the night light. Motions are a great idea i also need a good motion light suggestion the ones i used only work as there supposed to for about 4 weeks them they just stayed on!!

I had that problem too. Turns out the light sensor has a little plastic shield on it so that it doesn't get confused. It used double stick tape to hold it on. It promptly fell off and so I took it down, returned it and then I glued the replacement shield over the sensor so it would stay put. Works great now.

The shield is the size of your fingernail, so its easy to miss.
