I am trying to find the sprinkler line in my back yard so I can tap into it and put a hydrant next to my shop for water. The last time I did this, I rented a cable locator that had a transmitter I put on one of the wires that run the valves and had a hand held unit that I used to locate the wires. I can not find one to rent here in Fort Worth now. Any thoughts on how to find it or where I might be able to rent one close by???????

Drive a truck across your yard and then sit and wait for the wet spot. That has worked for me on several occasions. ;-)

Pretend you are digging a hole for a fence post and need to miss the sprinkler pipe. You'll hit the pipe on the first hole.

Draw imaginary lines between 2 heads on the same station. Chances are there's a pipe in between them. I know the sprinker guys use electronic wire finders to find the valves, but I never had to rent one.
